Am I the first one? lol

I did the *intermediate* assignment.

I used the scissor select tool (like the magnetic select in PS) and selected my son. Inverted the selection and desaturated the rest of the image. I then used the blur tool set at 100 to blur the black and white region. Next, I inverted the selection again (so my son was the active selection) and used the dodge tool set at 30 to "brighten" him up. I again used the blur tool set at 100 to blur his skin, avoiding his nose and eyes. I then went in and dodged the irises of his eyes with the tool set at 40. Using the airbrush tool set to use gradient color (I selected 2 separate shades of blue for the gradient), and set at 50% opacity, I airbrushed the irises to give them the bluer look. Lastly, I again used the scissor select tool to select the toy from the Exersaucer, and colorized it to the red of my choosing.

Oh really?? OK- then I will try to play! I figure if I can get fairly good at PSP, then I might feel more comfy Gimp (I don't have $600 for a program! lol). )Plus right now I don't have a lot of time to edit photos.

Off to do the beginners assignment then!

I use Gimp
I did the intermediate assignment
I started by opening the image (duh)
to make BW with some color
I went to layer, duplicate layer. went to colors and desaturated the top layer. used eraser tool to erase the areas I wanted in color, thechildsface/neck skinand sippy cup. saved the changes and re-opened it.

to smooth the skin, I selected the blur/sharpen tool. set it to blur, rate 60 and smoothed theskin on the face & neck.

to change te eyes color
I used the elipse select tool to select the pupil and , went to colors and selected colorize and chaned the hue. saturation and lightness

to change a color of one thingin the picture
I decided to chnage the sippy cup color. I used the free select/lasso tool and traced around the sippy cup then went ot colors, colorize and adjusted the hue, saturation & lightness.
then I saved and uploaded

i did the intermediate one too
BEFORE

AFTER

here's what i did!
first i cropped the pic to my liking! then i sharpened it using unsharp mask and did 3 adjustment layers... curves, levels and contrast! i flatten the image and made a duplicate, in which i applied Gaussian blur and erased back important details like the eyes, mouth etc! then i flattened again and used the magic wand to select the eyes and adjusted the curves! i then sharpened them slightly using the sharpen tool!
i selected the writing on his shirt and made it blue! i used the gradient map for the black and white and used a layer mask to mask back what i wanted in color!
it was fun

Alrighty then   I used a picture of a photography client of mine from a few years back. I did the intermediate one. I'm gonna write mine in steps like a tutorial, instead of explaining what I did.. FYI, this is kinda a long one.

1. Duplicated the background layer and then desaturated the duplicate copy. Then I added a vector mask to that duplicate copy.
2. Added a "Brightness/Contract" adjusment layer on top of that & messed with it to get theright black and whiteness that I wanted.
3. Grabbed a soft round brush with black, and "painted" on the vector mask to bring out the color of the shirt from the original layer underneath. (By doing this method with the vector mask and brush, it brings out the color in a more natural way instead of the harsh lines from a path. Just my opinion tho!)
4. Added a new fill layer of solid color (blue) on top of the duplicate copy and filled that vector mask with black. Then changed the blend mode to "color dodge".
5. Used the same soft round brush, but in white, on the new black vector mask to "paint" the irises of eyes. Now they're blue!
6. To make the eyes stand out more, I clicked on the B/W duplicate copy and used the burn tool with the soft round brush and went over the top and bottom eyelashes.
7. Next I added another adjustment layer (selective color this time) and messed with the sliders to make the shirt match the eyes.
8. For skin smoothing, I then merged all the layers and duplicated the new merged layer. On the bottom layer I did a "paint daub" filter and a "gaussian blur" filter. (You can turn the visability off on the top layer to see the filters your doing on the bottom layer to make sure they're just right.)
9. Then I added a vector mask to the top layer and "painted" over the skin with a soft round brush(I like this brush!)and with black. (If this look too fake for you, you can mess with the opactiy of the bottom layer to your liking.)

Im using photoshop cs3
i did intermediate

first i opened the picture
secondly i resized it to 400x300
then i cropped the fucker

i created a new layer.. one of those sexy transparent ones
i used the quick selection tool and copied my daughter red top and pasted it on the transparent layer

i then used the layers effect thingy on it and changed the top to a pink (also faded it)

i then created a new layer
i then used the quick selection tool again and copied her eyes this time

i then went back to original picture layer and changed it to black and white
i then used the brightness tool and messed around with it

then i went back to the eye layer
used brush stroke accented edges and then messed with the colour a tad (faded it also)

i then created a new layer
used the rectangular marquee tool and selected the hole picture, then i went to modify and added a 1pixel border... i then used the brush tool and coloured it
before then going to layer effects, i went to add style.. i used one of those

i then made another layout.. took my daughters face and body parts .. at first i had the whole picture black and white with out her skin a colour.. but i disliked it heaps, so after i had finished the project.. i went back and did a second copy with the skin showing.. ill add both below ( i changed the top colour on the second picture)
