Quoting God: Ok, we're on page two. I will explain why I posted this now. Nobody figured out what *I* meant, though ... [snip!] ... a normal human response, but as I said, it also lets them win. They are like the ox-herd, goading you into the ox pen. C.
That is exactly why if I'm feeling like I'm watching a monkey hump a football, then I just close out, remove the post from my replied list and move on with life. I'm sure in a few months the same post will be back up. LOL
I don't see any issue with coming to a peaceful conclusion though. I don't think this is compliance, but more of, "Hey, you didn't convince me otherwise, so let's agree to disagree civilly and move on." I don't think there are reasons for hurt feelings if someone uses tact and maturity to convey their point, no matter how intense it might be. In a discussion, there aren't room for insults or name calling. People confuse name calling with generalizations. For example, if someone said "I think that it is lazy when parents ___________." Of course there is one person that probably does the fill in the blank activity, but that's not saying that individual is lazy dreg. This, I don't think is name calling. Just like saying, "It's ignorant to think ____________." Name calling is out of context and is there just to provoke.
As for myself, I've been on many forums where I didn't fit in and I was constantly degraded and attacked. These were private forums too where you had to get approval to be on there. That hurt. It was like a bad case of the highschools again. I disagree with many on here, but I can't say off the top of my head there is anyone that I do not respect their opinion or dislike. Actually, I'm quite fond of the girls that I disagree with.
In any situation there will be a herd mentality. Humans by nature are obedient and no one wants to not be accepted. There was this experiment done where like 5 college kids (4 actors, 1 non) were sat in a room. The actors were instructed to always vote for the wrong answer. The college kid in the beginning would vote for what he knew was right. After about 10 minute, the college kid began raising his hand to what he knew were the wrong answers (like which line is longer? and there was a picture obviously showing a longer line). He was complying to fit in with his peers. I absolutely see this on these forums.
