Vaginal birth VS. C- Section
posted 29th Oct
OK ladies I need help!!!! I have a medical condition that may be passed to the baby during a vaginal birth depending on the circumstances. I also have scoliosis and a vaginal birth may give me more back problems in the future. But im scared to have a C section. I know there are more risks with a C section Vs a vaginal birth. Ive never had any kind of surgery and the thought of major surgery scares me to death. I dont know what to expect with a C section but I feel that would be the safest route to go. Anyone has any advice or know what to expect? Help please!!!!

I've had a forcep delivery, a normal vaginal birth, and a C-section. From the 3, I would always choose a normal vaginal birth over the others. The healing process afterwards is much faster and breastfeeding is less painful. BUT in your case, I can understand the concerns for a vaginal birth and will tell you my experience with the C-section.
I had an epidural which means I was awake for the C-section and my husband was in the OP room with me holding my hand. I was still able to "experience" the birth of my son as, although I felt no pain, I did feel him being taken from my body and heard his first crys. Seconds later he was placed on the bed beside my face and I was able to look into his eyes and say "hello" to him. If I had to have a C-section again, I would always choose this way (being awake and being able to still experience the birth). The disadvantage of being awake is that if you're a bit squirmish about OP's (like I am) it's hard to block out the panic that comes when you feel your skin being cut (there's is absolutely no pain but you still feel it) and streched out of the way and feel the pressure of the doctor inside you bringing the baby out and hear the noises of the suction machine and stuff like that (sorry if I'm too graphic here but you wanted to know what to expect). The recovery is also longer and more painful with a C-section and breastfeeding was harder since you have the healing scar and trying to find a comfortable position to breastfeed in is sometimes a painful process. You do recover from it though and in the end the joy of having a healthy baby makes it all worth it!!
With the vaginal birth, I was up and about 4 hours after my daughter was born. The birth itself was much more painful but afterwards I had no more pain and was able to go home soon after she was born. The next day I was out in the yard enjoying the sun and her. The healing after the birth is simply much faster than after a C-section! BUT if the health of the baby is at risk then I would always opt for a C-section.

I think you should find out ALL about your medical condition and just how necessary a surgical birth is to it. As well look into alternative forms of care that may help you avoid surgery. I get sciatic and my round ligaments often get things out of wack I see a chiropractor to address these issues. I think consulting with a chiropractor may help you avoid surgery.
Please know that c-sections are riskier than vaginal birth. If your interested in learning more about what those risks are and how to avoid c/section, please go to ICAN-online.org. Under resources please find the white papers. lots of helpful information on vaginal births vs surgical birth.

I've had 2 c-sections and one vaginal birth. The vaginal birth was in between the 2 c-section. The first c-section was an emergency c-section and I was only 16 and really scared. It went okay and I was shopping with my son 2 days after he was released from the hospital! Then 3 years later I had pre-eclampsia and had to deliver my stillborn vaginally since I wanted more kids and you can only have a few c-section. The delivery was horrible I had an epidoral and it quite working before I had to push and they wouldnt put a new one in. So I felt everything from my stomach down. Then almost 8 months ago I had another c-section that was planned and it went really smoothly! It was scheduled for 7:30 in the morning and we had to be there at 5:30 took get ready. It was a little nerve racking having to wait and just sit there! They started surgery at 7:45 and he was delivered at 7:59! The cool thing about it was that I could tell everyone when to be there and it was totally planned! My family from out of town even came to see him!!! The surgery itself went fine. It was a little longer than the first one to recoop from. But I had to walk my other son to the bus stop and I had two dogs to take care of too! About a week after he was born I was back to normal doing every thing I did before surgery!! I vote surgery!!! Goes much smother!
