you are right-- some women have no complications with the epidural.

And some women really CANT go into labor my themselves. You know before he had the medical attention we have today, Alot of babies died because a woman couldnt go into labor because they went so overdue that the plaenta went so bad and it couldnt give the baby what it needed and the child ended up dying. I was lucky to have gone into labor 5 hours beforebefore my inducement but when my daughter was born and my doctor saw my placenta, he was shocked. and i was reallyfurtheralong then we thought.my placenta looked horriable (not saying they look great but it was bad) i was lucky to get my daughter out of there then.

Some woman like me can take to much pain. I had already had VERY bad back pain before my pregnancy so i couldnt take the pain from contractions soi had toso sorryif i sicken you

I loved the epidural! It totally took the edge off of having my uterus sliced open.

What helped you during labor? I am going for my first natural birth at a birthing center with my Midwife, with my first I had a failed epideral.

getting induced is not the same as getting an epidural. pain relief is not absolutely necessary when having a baby (unless it is c-section).

Well the other girl was talking about inducement and i was making a statement.
No epidurals are not a nescesiaity but it helps alot. If i had seen this before i had my daughter i would have really re thought about it but my back was already fucked up before she came along and having back labor didnt help out one bit so i did what i thought would help in the long run as in getting rest to beable to push when i needed to

ETA- I also tried to avoid getting the epidural just for the simple fact of having a long ass needle in my back. Having the thought that i couldnt move or i would be paralyzed didnt make me feel any better so before that i did try getting IV pain meds first but after 3 hoursi think i couldnt take it

Now im off to bed because im damn tired. OP i think it was great you posted this, to show the risks of getting one and i give you props on that. Make sure to try making this a sticky!

for me? being at home helped a lot. being in a familiar place and being able to move around as i liked. having my husband next to me. he pushed on my lower back a lot. i drank A LOT of gatorade. i was so thirsty. i stayed naked. ice cold washcloths on my face and neck. not being embarrassed to be really vocal--- all those things helped me.

warning-- it's long!!

OMG I thought my epi was going to kill me, but I was so high, I didn't realize the epi was whats doing it. My sons heart STOPPED! After I got an epi. Part due to the epi part due to something else. My labor had to be stopped and I had to let it wear off. Thgey tried to c-section me but I FREAKED.

Then they gave it to me AFTER he was out (why?). I had horrible side effects and was very afrid I would never walk again. Dr said "we have to wait and see, lets wait and see" WTF? EASY TO SAY WHEN IT ISN"T YOUR LEGS BUDDY!

& I was so high I couldn't push, focus, do anything but vomit and ramble on about STUPID bull crap that I am very embarrassed to admit I said. I ultimately ended up birthing w/o it when they gave me the pitocin to restart things.

I am more afriad of getting an epi then I am of giving birth. Those things are just plain nuts. Not worth the risks AT ALL. But its like the dr never explained that to me befor, only after I had every side effect in the book.....& then tells me most of them are pretty common. If they are common why wouldn't you warn me f**ker??!
