Quoting Tattooed~Mommy:“ i've definitely researched the risks of other pain medications commonly used during labor (Nubain, Demerol, ... [snip!] ... epidural in this post since it's so very common around here ;) the other pain meds definitely have their list of risks as well.”
yeah i agree most everyone goes for the epidural.
Just was curious since you did such a great job with the epidural facts and this should become a sticky it would be great to include just all forms of it. Make it more generalized. Pain medication while in labor risk and benefits

Thank you for putting this out there. I for one would never put my child at risk even though the risks are rare. The only time I will ever even consider and epidural is IF and only IF I need a c section.I know people who have had epidiurals. One could not breastfeed her baby, and hasn't been able to bond as well with her baby. She CANNOT remember the first few minutes of her babys life, not even looking at her for the first time, who doesnt want that memory?Another has had severe backpain since giving birth, one other lady I know had an epidural, couldnt push, had a c-section, couldn't breast feed right away, and has back pain still. She also couldn't have a natural birth with her second child because she had a csection the first time.

I had zero problems from my epi and I would have probably thrown myself out of the window without it.

yeah cuz honestly there is no sticky out there and it you generalized it..

Epidural, IV pain relief during labor i bet it would have a great chance at sticky!!!
And hell everyone should know this before they get in there! i know i want to!

It really sickens me reading the labor stories on this site. Its just the norm to get induced, get the epidural, get pitocin, getthe unnecessary c-section. Childbirth the way it was intended is supposed to be the most amazing, painful, tiring, emotional experience of a woman's life and I think a lot ofwomen are missing out on that because theirbeing drugged up. They don't believe that they can do it naturally because they've been told they can't.

Some people will say it's bullshit though.

God, I think the lady at my child birthing class actually told me that epi's don't affect the baby.

I really don't want an epi, and I definitely want it even less after reading this. Lol.

Oh and I also breastfed right away no problem and still excluisvely breastfeed 6 months later. I vomited BEFORE the epi and pushed fine. The only thing that happened was my contractions stopped but they started them right back up with pitocin. So, I'm just saying not EVERYONE has bad reactions to epidurals adn they can really help a lot of women.

i know. i think it's very sad that the statistics are now 1 in 3 laboring women at the hospital will deliver by C-section (here in US.)
i understand some need surgery, but most do not. it is sad that a third of our children are not being born, they are being surgically removed.
