Cupcake ideas.

posted 9th Jan '09
So Mason's first birthday is fast approaching, and I haven't done any planning. I finally came up with a theme: Monkeys.
I am planning to make banana cupcakes and decorate them as monkeys, with some sort of chocolate/cream cheese icing and a nilla wafer for the lower part of the face. I'm not very good at piping, so I was hoping that you ladies could give me suggestions on how/what to use as ears and eyes. I've googled a bunch of pictures, but almost all of them are piped. I thought about using brown M&Ms for eyes, but I think they would get lost on the chocolate icing.
Ideas?

I actually really like these ones, but it's all piped and I'd have no idea how to make my icing that light beige colour.

maybe do another color or m&m's for the eyes....who says monkeys have to have brown eyes?

this one is cute, looks like chocolate circle cereal for the ears

for those to make them without al the icing, maybe buy vanilla wafers for the mouth, and attach thin shoestring licorice(black or red)with icing. the ears could be frosted cheerios, etc. The white of the eye, maybe white necco wafers then brown m&m's and a dot of white icing to put a sparkle in the eye.

Go to Target or Micheals and they have every coloring for icing. It's made by Wilson.

it's a kind of candy, that's a flat circle.

Those are soooo old school and the only candies my mom would buy us because she had 4 of us so those made the rounds with us and they were cheap

maybe do vanilla tootsie rolls, and cut/shape into circles?

Ooh, I love the cupcake idea with the monkey faces.
I saw some great cupcake & cake stuff at Michael's last weekend, I'd suggest looking there for supplies.
Seriously, you could probably find everything you needed & more, to make the perfect monkey face.
I plan on going there this weekend & planning Aleksia's birthday cake.
