Scarlett Elizabeth Anne Clarke
Born Jan 1st 2009 at 2:21pm.
8lbs 11oz, 21.5” long.
My water broke around 10:00am on the 31st. My husband and I went to the hospital right away and the admitted me after confirming it was my water. Contractions did not start until 2:00am, 14 hours after my water broke. I am glad they started though as they were going to induce me in the morning and I did not want that kind of intervention. Anyways, contractions started and they felt more like crazy period pains, and there was no pain in the top of my belly or on my back which I was expecting. Around 4:00am I decided to get the Nubaine shot, and that definitely got me to settle in and rest for abit. I still felt the contractions but it really took the edge off. The Nubaine made me really loopy and weird and I wouldn’t open my eyes to talk to anyone. Around 9:00am the Dr checked me and I was 5cms, and this is about the time I was begging for the epidural. It really is not bad at all to get the Epidural – I recommend it. I got a good rest in after the epidural. At 10:30 am, doc checked me again and I was fully dilated!! I went 5cms in 1.5 hours. He decided to let me rest a little more to let the baby descend on it’s own. At 12:30pm is when I started pushing. I had my mother and my best friend in the room and they held my legs while my husband kept the cold wash cloth on my forehead and held my head up while I pushed. I pushed for two hours and she would not come out. Her head was right there but would not crown. They had to intervene and use the vacuum on her which left a nasty cut on her head. I have third degree tears from her so I am a little sore, but she is worth every stitch!! She had some trouble with latching on at first but she is breastfeeding well now. She is perfect, and I still can’t believe that she is here now.
Oh, and by the way – she was the first baby born in 2009 at this hospital so we made the news and were in the newspapers too.
