burning vagina after giving birth

posted 5th Jan '09
ok, so i delivered my little man on new years eve, and i did tear, i dont know where.. i just know i have about 5 stiches outside and 2 inside... well after i gave birth and got settled i went pee and it burned like hell... i told my nurse she said its normal but if it dont go away they would do the uti test.. so before i was discharged i told them again it hadnt gone away, they did the test by catheter to get an accurate sample, and it was a negative.. so they sent me home. now it stil burning and its 5 days later, i actually have to kinda squat cuz if my pee goes down my vag then it kills, i have an appt on wensday for this, but i was wondering if anyone had experianced this? and if so what ended up happening? ive tried the sitz baths, ice packs, tucks and epifoam, nothing is working except to pee the way i am..

Well urine burns if it gets on an open wound of any kind. It's going to burn until the tears are healed over. Especially in such a sensitive area.

It burned every time I peed for a few weeks. Same with sitting in certain positions. Those stitches are no joke!

Did the hospital not give you tucks pads and a peri bottle for warm water for your stitches?

you could try spraying warm or cool water with a peri bottle while you pee... it's just part of healing.

Sure! This was in the FAQ's on that site:
My friend has recommended using Dermoplast for pain relief after I have my baby. What should I know?
Dermoplast was originally invented as an alternative to pain relieving creams and gels given to episiotomy patients and has helped many new mothers through an uncomfortable part of the birthing process. As a spray it offers the advantage of having a “no-touch” application and therefore avoids the discomfort associated with the need to rub a product on a sensitive area. Dermoplast Spray is widely used in hospitals for the relief of pain due to stretching and tearing of the perineum as well as the general skin irritation and discomfort that accompany delivery. If your friend has recommended using Dermoplast, you should consult with your Doctor, Nurse, or Midwife as well for additional guidance.
