Sorry- but no one responded, and I really hoped to get a good discussion going! So here goes-

I just finished reading The Shack and it has totally changed the way I veiw God and has answered a lot of really difficult questions posed time and time again by non-believers and believers alike. Anyway- I was wondering what this book has done in the life of the ladies who have read it.

Its about a man whos daughter was kidnapped and killed in this shack and in result he turns his back on God... four years later he gets a note in his mail box from God telling him to meet Him there... so he goes and asks God all of these questions and spends the weekend with God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. It answers questions like "Do all religions lead to God" (the answer will surprise you), "Why does God let bad things happen", etc etc etc.... it is an extremely important book... everyone should read it!

A work of fiction?

Aren't you supposed to be able to go to the bible to answer all of these questions? Why do you need a book written by someone you will never meet to answer these things for you? Wouldn't you rather go to a trusted spiritual leader in your community, or would you rather trust some random persons interpretation of God's intentions that he has written down in a fictional piece to make money off of people who doubt? Sounds kind of iffy to me.

Some ways explain things better than others do. Some people get a better idea of whats going on when its written this way. Makes things more intresting. Its like when you go through different experiences. You are seeing it in a different prospective.

I clean house for a very Strong Christian couple. They are always always reading different books and yesterday I noticed the Shack. It looked pretty good.

As for the girl who asked about only reading the Bible to get your answers. Some authors have been given the gift of discernment and have a way of explaining the Bible in understandable ways. The Bible is confusing at times and some times, when your hurt or emotional, its not always easy to find that one verse to help you through it. I agree, that the Bible should be your only source of knowing Jesus and God on a personal level, but fiction books help readers who aren't Christian to understand in a different way. I'm right now, reading "Revelation, Illustrated and made Plain" by Tim LeHaye. Its pretty good. I just started but it is explaining what the letters to each of the Seven Churches mean and which era represents which church.
