Red Raspberry Tea

posted 4th Jan '09
When do you start drinking it? I have heard lots of people say that it helps but I am just over 37 weeks. I want him to stay in until closer to his due date (if that is what he has in mind) but I don't know if it is something you start a few weeks early, or on your due date or a few days before.

PS I have also seen all the posts where people quite curtly let other people know that "nothing will work until the baby is ready" so I am aware that that is also an opinion;)

It wont put you in laour honey, I started drinking it at about 35 weeks with my daughter and i had her on my due date. It just softens you up and helps you with the pushing part. I love it and will be starting it as soon as i get to the shop to buy it lol. Goodluck xx

When you drink the raspberry tea 8-6 weeks before giving birth it helps your uterus strengthen for labor. Red raspberry tea will not put you into labor.

My Dr. looked at me funny when I asked and told me to drink what I wanted (other than booze of course)

well i looked it up -

The more radical stance is that drinking one cup of tea per day in the 1st trimester and 2 cups in the 2nd trimester and switching to the infusion in the 3rd trimester ensures a strong uterus, is good for you nutritionally and prevents miscarriage. Some say it is advised to not use it in the first trimester, particularly if you have a history of miscarriage.
The more conservative stance is that red raspberry leaf can cause minor spotting in the beginning of a pregnancy, and some U.K. midwives claim an increase in miscarriage rates. Contact your midwife, herbalist or physician for more information. If you're thinking about using it, to be safe, just wait until you're 36 weeks along.
What does Red Raspberry Leaf Do? Red Raspberry leaf does not start labor or promote contractions. It is NOT an emmenagogue or oxytocic herb. What it does is help strengthen the pelvic and uterine muscles so that once labor does start the muscles will be more efficient.

I weighed my options and chose to go with the one cup a day for my first trimester to help strengthen things but then I thought I was supposed to stop until close to my due date....**off to brew a cup**

I've been drinking a cup a day.. definitely no help with labor, lol. My sister said it just helped her have an easy labor - made things more durable down there.
