Antidepresants while pregnant

posted 28th Dec
My doctor put me on zoloft a week and a half ago and I am finally starting to feel like my old self again. However I hate being on meds and want to get off as soon as possible. I am due in 4 weeks and then am on my way to recovery, I was wondering though how long to stay on them after the baby is born. I have read alot about trying to quit zoloft and it having horrible side effects. So how do I know when the time is right? I have never been depressed in my life and but this pregnancy kicked my but bad. I know I need this right now but how will I know when its o.k. to get off of them because I have read that the side effects when stoping them are just like the reasons on why I got on them ugh im so confused

oh I am on the lowest dose 25 mg and plan on staying there because I dont see a reason to increase the dose if I am starting to feel normal

It's probably best to stay on them for a while after you have the baby.

If you are already depressed, PPD can hit you hard.

i was told "buspar" which is a anti depressant is alot safer .. like i think its a class b which is considered safe, so i would ask about that instead of zoloft.

i didnt like buspar it actually gave me horrible anxiety

it is actually better for you to be one something that makes you feel better, even if it is a class C drug. They have dont studies that it is better for the baby then being depressed.

Happy Mom=Happy Baby

I have been on Wellbutrin since my last miscarriage and I stayed on while pregnant out of fear of where I would go emotionally if this pregnanct went the same way as the others... I am not considering going off after becuase I feel like I might be prone to PPD plus it is Winter here which means less sunlight and lots off being stuck in...also I will be alone for six weeks after the baby is born and I want to stay a bit more "even"

I was on Welbutrin, Celexa and Klonapan before I found out I was pregnant and stopped them right away and the withdrawls were INSAINE, there are ways of going of them without so many side effects-just talk to your doctor and keep them informed and honestly for the most part i would listen to what they say. I went through Kaiser to the mental health dept and they really did there best to help me. When I went of ther medications I did it wrong and had been on some sort of medication for the past seven years. It is SO hard to be pregnant and off them, I think about asking to go back on them but am too afriad I will hurt the baby or they will have withdrawls. What didyour doctor say about taking them? That is was totally fine?

Tantriclemons-Do you have any of the links to articles? Because I want to show my husband if you do, I know he wants me to be happy and healthy but I am petty sure he is nervous that any of that stuff can hurt my baby-I might just be freaking myself out.

Sure thing i am making dinner but i will for sure find you some stuff, there is some research on the effect of depression on babies, and some other stuff.

I was on bi-polar meds pre-pregnancy to and when i went off it was HORRIBLE i had a really rough time, if i could go back i would have switched to something that was more safe, instead of just going off. My ob is so concerned with my mood on the baby he askes me about it every visit.

well i have never been on anti depressants but i know for anxiety they put me on lorazapam... but u need to just realax i think.. because really ur having a child, why would u be depressed already? not for nothing but isnt it women that are depressed that usually end up killing their children... like that women who drowned all 4 of her kids in the tub, or look at the most recent.. the littel girl kaylee her mom killed her and never even reported her missing... they put me on lorazapam because they though i was having anxiety attacks cuz i was having severe chest pains, but it was my gallbladder. .. lovey doctors, good thing i only tried the meds 2ce, cuz i wouldnt want to risk my baby

Here is an article that is pretty un-biased, it overlays the risks of depression and medication on a fetus...
