SEX INDUCE LABOR?
posted 22nd Oct '06
Well, I have been having sex like every day for the past two weeks...I havent gone into labor yet! Is this a myth about sex? I have heard that its supposed to help you go into labor.
I am so anxious. If the baby doesnt come by wednesday/thursday, they're going to induce me.
any tips?

This is my first so I can go only by what I've heard. I've been told pulling out the breast pump and pumping milk out will make you go into labor.
I would also say.. get as much sex in as you xcan because you'll have 6 weeks with out it

it's not totally a myth... it's just a little bit of a myth. the reasoning behind the story-- is that IF you orgasm during sex, your body will release a substance knowns as oxytocin-- which is also a key substance circulating through your body during labor. it's a cyclic feedback mechanism with progesterone and a few other hormones.
SO, if you orgasm and all the other systems in your body are ready, sex-- or more accurately, the orgasm can be the trigger to labor.
BUT, if you orgasm and your body just isn't ready, nothing's going to happen.
it's more of a myth than not-- although, it's possible (not probable) that it can trigger the beginning of labor if your body is ready.
good luck!

There are two different reasons why sex can induce labor. The first being semen contains the same chemical that can help ripen your cervix, and the second is when your orgasm your uterus contracts.
These only work though if you are already making progress. Hope to help!

I have been told that eating spicy foods can help induce labour as well...

the breast pump myth isnt too far off either. when you stimulate your nipples you produce oxytocin too. which if you are ready, can help labour start. but only if you are ready.

i think it is a myth because i was just like you when i was pregnant and it did not make me go into labor. they told me i was going to be induced if i did not give birth by my due date but it turned out that i had my baby the day before my due date so you never know yours might be tomorrow.

This is my first baby, so I'm not too sure.
I do know I'm 38 weeks and Sunday night we had sex and I woke up at 3am having contractions, they stopped at 7:45am.
(I thought that I would only start contractions if I had an orgasm but I didn't have any and I had contractions)
Lastnight we didn't have sex and I didn't have any contractions and I slept through the night...well except for the 4 bathroom trips.
I've had Braxtin-Hicks Contractions since Monday morning but nothing else.
Tonight we'll probably try sex again and see if I do the same as I did Monday morning.
Tomorrow I will be 39 weeks...I'm even thinking if I start having contractions after sex like I did on Monday, I'm going to be BOLD and try the Castor Oil technique...but I'm not too sure about the Diarrhea thing!
I was all "whenever he wants to get here that's when he'll come" but, when I started my 38th week I started getting very uncomfortable & as the days go by I feel like I have the flu! From the bottom of my chest to my vagina is just so sore and achy!

I actually went on a few medical sites looking at what does and doesnt induce labor, and the only thing they found to be semi true was chinese food, as funny as that sounds. But they also said in it, that there were some other common factors with those people, so they are not for sure if thats what caused it. But the sex thing they said doesnt do it, and they also listed a few other that I think most people either wouldnt try or already know is a myth.
And I have found no medical studies on this,. but everyone I know says vibration will push you along. My one friend always takes a ride on a quad and within 24 hours she is in labor. So who knows....maybe thats just her....

Don't laugh it works. RUB YOUR NIPPLES!!!!!!! When I was pregnant with first child, nurse informed me that stimulating your nipples helps to release hormone that stimulates contractions. Also, orgasms galore, they cause you to release hormones too.
