acid reflux...

posted 24th Dec '08
My 5 week old has been spitting up projectile spit up since she was born. Almost 1 oz every time she eats. So I took her to the doctor. Poor little baby they said they had to rule out hypertrophicpaloricstenosis geez long word I had to ask them how to spell it. Anyways it is far more common in boys that in girls and what they said to me is that it is the paloric muscle grows too thick and itcan't contract to digest the food, so everything comes up. If they have that they have to have surgery. So they had to do blood work, take a urine sample (it was so sad they hd to put a bag on her) and do a sonogram. Thankfully they ruled out the hypertrophicpaloricstenosis. So they said it was the formula or adic reflux. Anyways they changed her to soy formula and put her on adic reflux medicine that she has to take once at night and once in the morning. They also told me to give her Pedialyte only 1/2 oz every hour for six hours then starther on he soy formula. They started this yesterday. I did the pedialyte and started her formaula and thankfully so far she hasn't been spitting up like she usually does. But they made her an appointment for the 5th to see how bad her reflux is. I hate that she does it, it makes me feel so bad for her. I feel bad for any baby that has this. She choked when she was a newborn because of this and she stopped breathing. She makes weird noises at night like she is gasping for air and the doctor said she is probably spitting up in her mouth and having to swallow it and she chokes a little. That scares me. I feel bad for all babies and all mommies that have to go through this. Good luck to all new mommies.

This is my baby!!!!!!!! She was holding her own bottle she is 5 weeks

My nephew had the same problem when he was born. He would make the gasps when he slept and threw everything back up when he ate. Drs told my sist the same thing as yours. It gets better! Hes a very healthy 5 year old now.

My nephew had that... He had to have surgury where they just poked holes through the muscle that was too thick.. Before he had the surgery this kid could projectile vomit formula ten feet across the room... Looked like something out of the exorcist, LOL- All it took was like three days in the hospital and three itty bitty little stitches and the kid has been fine ever since!

aww how sad my daughter spits up like that to. She was sitting on my couch and spit up to the other couch which was like 2-3 ft away. geez well So far she is still spitting up. This morning I gave her the acid medicine and she didn't for awhile then at about 8 o'clok tonight she was sitting in her carseat and shr choked on her spit up and scared us all again. So I dunno. I have to give her her medicine again. I guess it helped for awhile.
