freak out

posted 15th Dec '08
I feel like I'm going to lose it! I'm really ready to snap. I just really need to get this out. I believe that I have a OCD tendencies. I am not full-blown, but I have a need for things to be neat and orderly or else I freak out. My husband is a complete slob. He does nothing but make a mess everytime he comes home. He works in the steel mills so he's always filthy when he comes home. Therefore the shower is disgusting (we only have one) and his clothes are nasty. He brings home his "lunchbox" which is a cooler with a strap and puts it in the corner. It's so dirty it is making the walls and the floor dirty.

We also have two dogs. ( I like dogs, just not in my house.) I cannot stand it anymore.I mop the floor and two seconds later they come in the house and make a mess. They make my house smell like dog. And we also have a beagle who doesn't shut up.

On top of all that, we have two toddlers. I know they will make a mess and I am ok with that actually. Unfortunately though, when everthing else starts piling up on me, I take it out on them.

I have had a horrible day today with messes and the dogs and I just snapped early. Starting yelling and screaming and just flipped out. I put the girls to bed early(for their nap) and now I am sitting here just shaking. I can't do this anymore! I need to get take the first step and get rid of those dogs. I've brought it up before, but my husband always tells me no! He needs to make a choice though. The dogs or me, I can't do this anymore. It's not fair to me or my girls!!!

Sorry it's so long, I just really needed to get that out there.

I think Im a little OCD too. But hes seriously going to make you choose him or the dogs? Wow. If my boyfriend said anything like that I would want to leave, but thats just me.

Well when I've brought it up before it was always, these dogs are obnoxious, maybe we should find a new place for them kind of thing. Then he would say that I am over reacting and it was just a bad day, so I would let it slide. Now I can't take it anymore! I can't do it. So he won't have a choice. They are gone or I am. I don't think he'll chose the dogs though.

It's hard though because one of the dogs is actually mine (the beagle) and we've had her for 3 1/2 years. She's part of the family and I love her, but I just can't do it anymore!

Wow you are living in my world, but add an extra kid! From a neat freak/OCD/nitpicker to another, you just have to take a breath and laugh. Then get the hubby to at least build those doggies a dog house or get rid of them.Wait til the babes wake up and apologize to them for being a grumpy goat with a big BUT attatched, saying what responsibilities they are going to have for now on.My two year old and 4 year old do not get any movies, or computer unless toys are picked up,clothes in the hamper, and dishes by the sink-they are never too young to start.Try and relax,I am gradually learning to let go-you will too. Also try to be organized,it makes the chaos a little less, and talk to hubby tonight and get him on the same page(quietly and calmly, they tend to listen better).Good luck, big hugs!

Thank you! The girls are learning, for sure. The baby is not quite 18 months, so she can only do so much, but the 3 year old is good. I've tried talking to hubby, we actually went to counseling (I had PPD) and talked about him helping me out more, but he only does it when I bring it up and then it's over. He doesn't keep up with his end of the deal. I wish he could really see how hard it is for me, but I don't think he really does. I think he just honestly believes I'm over-reacting.

i'm not a huge fan of dogs. they are cute....just not in my house. i could deal with one small dog i think....but that's about it. and beagles really do smell. i hate the smell of dog. i don't blame you for wanting to get rid of them. a

Oh for sure they do.My hubby took my two month old-after I put him in his arms-(who has acid reflux and was screaming) while my two year old was yelling"Dad I have to poop"so he could pull down her pants, and my 4 year old was climbing on him-so I sat in the kitchen and just watched. He looked over after 2 min and 38 seconds to be exact and was about to say can you help, and I smiled and shook my head.He dealt with them(rather snappish,I might add) and later I said very calmly and sternly,"Now you know what I put up with every day,and you could only handle it for 2min,and 38 second".He replied"You are amazing, and I appreciate you so much more".He is much more helpful now.

Don't you love when things like that happen.   I was really sick with the flu a few months ago and he had to deal with the kids all day while I just slept. By the next day he told me that he didn't know how I do it and he would never be able to handle it everyday. I know he appreciates what I do, but he just won't put in the effort to help me with it. I think he just has a lot of growing up to do still. His mommy did everything for him and his dad, so that is what he expects now. It's been kind of a rude awakening to him that I don't work that way and he needs to put in his fair share. He's been rebelling. You would think after 4 years he would give in though.

Hey mama I feel your pain.
Our dog is not allowed in the house (well if it is really cold and I feel bad I'll sneak her in for a little bit). But not to come and go as she pleases. Make hubby build them houses OUTSIDE!!. and I'm sure today is a better day. I can't help you with the ocd , that is my hubby I'm the messy one.

And damned this blasted rain.

It's probably too late for that though. My older dog has been in our house and slept on our couch for over 3 years already. She yaps non-stop if she's outside for longer than 20 mintuest. And I mean a loud, annoying NON-STOP yap. I've left her out there for over an hour and she literally barked the whole time until the neighbor complained.   I guess I'll just have to learn to deal somehow.
