Assome of you know, I am a nurse- and I spend a lot of time here on the computer answering surveys and leaving messages and just in general goofing off..however, it's time for me to be serious now.
In my experience in the health care/ medical field I have encountered and helped care for people from many walks of life that have been afflicted with some pretty serious maladies and conditions..all of these experiences have touched my heart and soul in some pretty profound ways...as a CNA I had the opportunity to be very hands on with many people of various ages that were afflicted with diseases such as Huntington's Disease, cancer, Alzheimer's Disease, Pick's Disease, schizophrenia, diabetes..and the list goes on.
It broke my heart that although I was so hands on it didn't seem as if I was doing enough for the people that I cared for, so I made the decision to go on to nursing school and become a nurse. I am now an LPN and plan to go on and get my RN at some point in time- but still, I feel that I don't do enough for the people that I care for, and although I feel rewarded knowing that I AM helping these people it's still very hard to watch them suffer and know that I am limited in what I can do for them.
Assome of you know I also am married to a wonderful man who is the other half of me and completes me..what some of you may not be aware of is that he suffers from chronic renal disease due to a condition that he was struck with when he was just 19 years old. This illness killed his kidneys, and as a result he is on hemodialysis three times a week and is currently on the kidney transplant list. He has received two transplants in the past however they didn't work and he is now at a point at which he requires a perfect match.
At any rate, all of these experiences have led me to feel empowered to post every year, this entreaty that we all reach deep within ourselves and do what we can to help those who really need it most. I am going to do what I can to help others throughout the USA..heck, the world even by advocating for myself and others to do what we can to help those in need.
We all have many things in our life that we are grateful for.. our kids, our families in particular..and I think that we generally take what we have for granted. I know from experience what it is like to love someone who is in need of an organ and to see every day how that affects them physically and emotionally..and to know that if I could do ANYTHING to make him better that I would- although I am not the perfect match that my husband requires, there is still an option for me to be screened and placed on a different type of donor list that could potentially allow me to donate to another needful person, who may have someone that is a match for my husband and could then in turn donate to him.
However, I also realize that I have at my disposal a medium in which to reach out to others to ask them to do what they can and what they will to help others- not just on my husband's behalf, but for others who suffer from other afflictions as well. This does not include *only* medical afflictions, but those among is who are homeless and hungry, who are less fortunate and unable to provide gifts for their little ones at holiday time, and other such serious issues.
There are many people out there who need our help, whether it's organ donation, monetary donations, volunteering your time to make phone calls, hand out informational pamphlets, sponsor or participate in walkathons or other benefits to raise money for research into cures or helping those afflicted in times of monetary need. All I ask is that we all take the time to consider giving a helping hand in any way that we can, or or comfortable with....in this time of giving this is probably the greatest gift that we could give someone in need...what if it was you or someone that you loved?? Wouldn't you want to ask all that could help to do so??
So, in the areas below please be so kind as to check out the websites and read up on the various organizations and charities- and even if you can't donate time or money- you can help out by spreading the word- just copy and repost this bulletin, you never know how much that one simple action might help someone, you could potentially save a life.
Thanks in advance!!
By all means- if you think of or know of any other organizations to add to this list, please comment or message me with a link or the name and I will edit as necessary!!
