TTC with PCOS? or PCOS mommies out there?

posted 13th Nov '08

Any mommies out there with PCOS wanna chat once in a while (here on the board)? Or if you or someone you know TTC that has PCOS wants to come on that's fine also.

I just know how hard it is to cope with sometimes ... especially when TTC as I did for soooo long! Just thought maybe we could support each other or maybe help others learn about it or help someone else with it.

I am so interested to see how many of us there really are?

I'm in momma. You know my story. PCOS is not something to take lightly. It messes up your hormones making it super hard to conceive and in my case stay pregnant.
I have learned so much about the subject that it totally took me by surprise that last year I was actually teaching a doc/nurse?? about it??..
I'm here for all PCOS mommas... WE WILL KICK PCOS BUTT!!!!!

That sounds a lot like Turner's Syndrome.... only that is caused by a chromosomal defect... it has pretty much the same symptoms, though

Ladies welcome. I so hope others come too. I will have to check out the turners.

PCOS robs so many of us. Those trying to concieve and having problems may not even know why. So if you know anyone that is having problems have them check into this. I would hate to see anyone else go thru what I have had to when they may not have to.

I have PCOS and was Dx'd in 99 opr 2000 I can't remember which. I tried for SO long to get pregnant to where the doc's finally said, "You're in menopause! Your chances of getting pregnant were 1 in 1,000,000." I went 5 yrs without a cycle until they put me on some provera to make me have a cycle. Metformin did NOTHING for me and when I took Clomid it just made my boobs hurt.

When we decided to look into adoption, I got off all of my fertility drugs (Aug. 07). Then in October I had a cyst rupture on my left ovary. Mind you I still hadn't had a cycle since July. One week before Christmas we found out I was pregnant. The dr's are claiming it was the cyst rupturing that allowed me to ovulate for the first time in...about 10 yrs. Low and behold, we now have a BEAUTIFUL little boy and we're ready to try again!!!

Welcome aboard ladies! So glad to see the odds being beat!

Most woman if diagnosed early can be helped with TTC and even the other symtoms. But some of us whom went so long without treatment are not as lucky. Yes, after trying for nearly 22 years we have our little miracle and she is sooooo worth the wait. But since I went untreated for so long I now have to suffer the symtoms.

Yes, I am on the med that is right for me (metformin) and I know it helps, but it is so depressing to have to shave my face like a man every day and then have the 5 o'clock shadow return. There are times the acne is bad ... like right now. here I am 40 years old and have a breakout! The weight struggle is bad. I was a size 14 before pregnancy (which was a success for me). Now I am in 16 again. Which that is fine ... I have her and she makes up for that!
My cycles were normal with the meds before pregnancy and were returning to normal since having her until this one.I am just praying they stay pretty normal. The male pattern baldness is not real bad for me yet, but it is starting to show more.
I always have hated that it took my sex drive away. Not sure if that will ever return, but not much time for it anyway lol. Plus hubby works so much trying to make the ends meet. So it is probably better to not have a sex drive! I can say for the 1st trimester I sure had one though!

I have to work hard to keep from being depressed. but Emily sure helps there!

The skin tags don't bother me as they aren't really seen. I don't have the brown patches so am thankful for that!

I am tired, but I think that is pretty normal for my age and having an 8 month old! lol

I noticed problems back in 1986 ... really cannot remember before that about my cycles. I saw 6 different doctors (3 of those infertility specialists) over 13 years and was just treated as a number. Then in 2003 I met a wonderful caring doctor who did not treat me as a #. He was the one to diagnose me! SoI thank God for that man also!
I just want to help anyone out there with their struggle and to let them know it can all possibly be changed. there is hope!

I have received so many comments from my about me page that I wanted to share with others who may be struggling too in hopes of helping others as well.

22 yrs? Holy cow, I thought mine was bad. I was always a size 2-4 in highschool (give or take), but my cycles were screwed up. I was put on the pill early on so that helped a little. By the time I went into the Navy my cycles weren't great, but the weight gain had gradually taken presidence. Once I got out of the service it went to shit. Literally in 1 month I put on 50 lbs and I barely ate a thing. The dr's couldn't figure out what was causing it. (1996) By 1999, I went from 110 lbs to 175 lbs and it was driving me nuts! My hair started to fall out, I couldn't lose weight, I had acne for the first time IN MY LIFE! WTF!!! I had gone through 2 husbands (first one was abusive, second one ran off with my best friend because he knocked her up) by 2003 and by this time the skin tags were forming and the dr's knew what was going on, but couldn't control it. In 2005, 3 months before I got remarried again, I had surgery to check on my tubes, make sure my uterus was looking okay. They removed 15-30 tiny pearl white hard as nails cysts the size of a pea. They don't know what they were or how they got there. By Oct 2005 my cycles began to regulate, but my blood work showed I was in menopause. In Aug of 2007 we were fed up with everything and so I got off my drugs....the rest you know. Now, I haven't had a PP period yet so we'll see what happens. I'm taking a preggo test tonight to see if MAYBE we're preggo again. Who knows. As for my skin tags...they were worse during pregnancy, but I cut those bad boys off with clippers. My hair...thank goodness for color so it doesn't look that bad.
