I was told I had PCOS almost a year ago. I never knew anything was wrong with me until I went off birth control. I didn't get a period for about three months with negative pregnancy tests when I saw my doctor. I wasn't ovulating therefor no period and no pregnancy. My fiancé and I tried for a while on our own before finding this out then soon after that decided to try clomid. I was on that for four on this with no success and getting worried. My mom did research and we asked my doctor about trying it with metformin. That was making me ovulate and I thought we wouldnt have any problems after the first month we got my finances sperm count checked and the doctor told us we were gonna need a sperm donor if we wanted to get pregnant. I felt hopeless at that point. Two weeks later I took a pregnancy test and found out I was five weeks pregnant! Now we are expecting on march 8th! So this is our little miracle baby. I didn't have as bad of experiences as some of you but it was a journey and I wish everyone with PCOS the best!

So did you get pregnant just by taking the metformin or did you start the clomid? I got put on metformin about 3 weeks ago and I didn't ovulate this month that I know of. I tracked with opks and I never once got a positive. How long were you on metformin before it helped you ovulate? I'm starting to wonder if it's gonna help me. So far nothing but it's only three weeks. I'm almost done with this bottle I have 4 refills so I guess I will see by the last refill if it's gonna help me or not.

The only thing I've read is that it causes you to go a while without a period then have one then go another few months without one. That is what gets me too cuz I'm normal. My periods are on time every darn month. that is what gets me too about me not ovulating. Like this month, I want to see if it comes around the same time as last month since I didn't get a positive opk. If it does I will see how the period acts cuz they say your period is different if you don't ovulate. So I shall see. The only symptoms I'm having is the trouble losing weight and that lil bit of hair that is under my chin. And most women with PCOS that has it says they have to shave it or wax it like every day or every other day. Mine doesn't grow like saying. I can go a week or more before having to. And I think the reason I'm not ovulating like saying is cuz my body got messed up from the miscarriage then having the problem with the cyst. I started walking yesterday so hopefully this exercise will help kick start ovulation for me.

It's so tricky with PCOS you can have your time of the month but not ovulate . you can also have a regular menstruation cycle it only gets thrown off every once in awhile. you could be insulin resistant you could also have any combination of factors. some women get a. Every month but have excessive hair growth. it's funny that you say your self diagnosing because when you walk into doctors office there is no definitive test besides going in Ashley scanning your ovaries n even in my doctor said that's not what they do they base it off of all the things that were talking about here in the thread. they asked me a bunch of questions about hair growth in menstruation tested my blood sugar did some blood tests and that day in for me I have PCOS.

Don't give up! I've started exercising which is what I did last time and I got pregnant by myself. I never needed doctor intervention. I don't know why I'd need it now but my two kids I have are 7 years apart and it took me 5 years to get pregnant with my angel baby. Other factors had something to do with that but it's a long story. Me and my hubby actually tried to get pregnant for 2 months when it happened. I don't know if I have PCOS or not. All my levels are normal, my periods are normal, and the only things that possibly can suggest I have it is the hair growth and weight issues.

PCOS Symptoms

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is described as a syndrome rather than a disease because it shows up as a group of signs and symptoms that can occur in any combination. Here are some of the symptoms of PCOS:
CHECK!
Abnormal menstrual cycle: When you have PCOS, your periods may be heavier, lighter, irregular, or absent altogether. However, you may have completely normal periods and still have PCOS.

CHECK!
Weight gain: In women with PCOS, weight gain is mostly due to high levels of insulin circulating in the blood. Cells normally absorb glucose with the help of insulin. When cells don’t respond normally to insulin, your body produces even more insulin, to “force” the cells into responding. When insulin levels rise, other hormonal changes can lead to increased appetite and decreased fat burning, which lead to weight gain.
CHECK!
Acne and oily skin: Women with PCOS tend to have higher levels of androgens (male hormones), which cause acne and increased skin oiliness
CHECK!
Excess hair growth: Your body may be hairier in certain places (such as your chest, thighs, face, and back), a side effect of androgens.
CHECK!
Hair loss: The hair on your head may thin if you have PCOS, another side effect of higher androgen levels.
CHECK!
Sleep problems and fatigue or exhaustion: These symptoms can be due to fluctuating hormone levels and increased anxiety.
CHECK!
Depression, anxiety, irritability, and mood swings: These symptoms are probably due to disrupted hormone levels.
CHECK!
Fertility problems: The hormonal imbalances that come with PCOS can disrupt ovulation.
NOT CHECK!
Metabolic syndrome: Also known as syndrome X, metabolic syndrome is a cluster of symptoms, including insulin resistance (where insulin produced by the body doesn’t work efficiently), high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. It can lead to diabetes and heart disease.
out of all these symptoms...theres ONE i dont have

Wow so it's safe to say you've probably got it. I was thinking of getting off my metformin but I'm gonna give it a lil more time. I read that it could take about 2 to 3 months to work. I don't want to wait that long but that would be December anyway and she would put me on something to go along with the Metformin then so if I stay on it I might have a better chance at conceiving than if I stop it and have to restart it and get it back in my system. I don't know if it's the drug but I feel my ovaries a lot and I know it's not ovulation. Maybe it's my ovaries trying to function again I don't know. But it does hurt like a crab sometimes. I hope you can find out if you have it and get some help. I've actually made up my mind that today is the day. I'm gonna start eating healthier and walking every other day. I plan to do 2 to 3 miles today. In fact I'm about to leave in a minute to hit the track.

Hi all,

I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2010 after a year off the pill and trying to conceive on our own with no success. My periods slowly started to disappear and when I waited 4 mos for one to start thats when I found out I have it. I never suspected anything was wrong because I have always maintained an average weight without much exercise or watching what I eat. My cycles as a teen before the BC pill were somewhat irregular usually taking anywhere from 36-51 days to start. I went on metformin 3x a day and started seeing a fertility specialist. They discovered I also have hypothyroidism, endometriosis, a retroverted uterus as well as an irregularly shaped uterine wall on one side (not sure what from). So I was taking metformin, synthroid, and underwent surgery and had the endometiosis cleared up. Doc told me I should be more fertile for 6-9mos until the endometriosis grows back. Despite being on metformin a while, I wasn't ovulating on my own. We tried various strengths of clomid and femara combined with timed intercourse and then tried IUI with femara. Still no luck until we tried the Gonal-F injectable pen with another IUI. I had one chemical pregnancy before trying the gonal-F, but this time they seemed more confident in my blood result of positive pregnancy! I went off the Metformin and so far I'm 27 weeks pregnant with my first child. I'm 34.

That's what I'm afraid of. I was put on Metformin a month ago to help with weight loss and because I'm possibly not ovulating on my own. I hope it's just the opks not picking up. One doc said I have PCOS and my other doctor who did the surgery on my ovary in August (to remove a cyst) said from what she saw and sees I don't. So I don't know. I have some symptoms of it. My periods are like clockwork. The only things I have are some extra hair on my face and my stomach. I also have trouble losing weight but that's mostly cuz I get lazy. Other than that things with me are normal. I'm hoping the metformin doesn't mess my cycles up. I don't think it'll help me ovulate. I didn't get a positive this cycle so she told me if I dont' get a positive by December to call and she'll do a CD21 blood test and then put me on Clomid or something. I don't think I'll need much help. My uterus and all are fine. Congrats on your pregnancy! I hope the rest of your pregnancy is uneventful and you have a healthy rugrat lol!

I think in story is incredibly inspiring. The amount of overcoming and struggling you went through to acheive your pregnancy is amazing . I hope the rest your pregnancy flies by and I'm sure much like the rest of us you just can't wait to hold that baby in your arms.

Yea I know he's here but it's still depressing. A friend who lost her baby right around the time I lost mine just messaged me on here and told me she got her BFP. I'm happy for her but at the same time hurt. I hate feeling this way because I wanted her to have it bc she stressed so much. I just want mine but I think God will not let me have it until he knows we can totally afford it and be ready. I am trusting him to do it then. Until then we'll just keep on doing what we do best. BD and hope and pray.
