lump under c-section incision
posted 13th Nov '08
I had my c-section last wednesday and I've been in a lot of pain on my left side. Today when I was laying on the couch I noticed that I have a lump the size of a golf ball under/slightly above my incision on the left side. It's hard as a rock and really painful. My pain meds don't even come close to making it feel better. I can't see my OB until tomorrow afternoon, so have any of you ladies experienced this?

have you done the little massage exercises? it could be some scar tissue forming. its not red or hot is it? if it gets that way i would go to the er, that means a possible infection.

Check with your doctor to be sure Benedryl is safe to take with your meds, but you may want to try that. It could possibly be a suture reaction and Benedryl can help calm the area down a little.

It feels like its under muscle or something. It can't be seen, but it's really easily felt. My whole lower stomach is hot. It has been since I had the c-section but they told me at the hospital that it was normal because it was healing. My OB wasn't in the office today, and I have 2 appt for my son in the morning. So, I'm going in at 4 tomorrow to see what my OB thinks about it.

Hi. I have the same thing! It feels like a golf ball about an inch above my external incision. It doesnt hurt unless i push on it. Its been there for 3 weeks. I've had my GP and my OB look at it and my GP said a hematoma that would heal on its own. My OB said i'm just still healing. It feels huge. Can you let me know what your OB said and if its improved since you posted this.

I have the same thing also. My doctor told me that it can be from scar tissue settling in one place...and that it'll go away on it's own.

I had the same thing. Sometimes when I moved it felt like someone was stabbing me! Thank goodness it went away after a couple of weeks!

I have the same thing. Half a golf ball lump under the right side of my of my c section incision. I go in to see my OB on Tuesday and I'm hoping for some answers as to what this is. I'm not happy, seeing as I planned a natural birth, but the little guy just had to make a grand entrance via emergency c sec.! lol

Well, I had to go in today instead of tomorrow because my incision started oozing dark red blood. Turns out my lump is a hematoma that started draining itself thru my incision site. Now it is infected and I have to have it cleaned 2-3 times a day by insetting a qtip soaked in half peroxide, half water into the incision holes and it should heal from the inside up. NOT PLEASANT! It's painful and being emotional besides this issue doesn't help.
I know this thread is old, but if anyone in the future has a lump under their c section incision (and I'm 13 days out of surgery), don't hesitate to see your doc. Maybe you can avoid infection. Good luck!

I know this is a really old post, but I have the same thing. I had my baby 5 weeks ago tomorrow. I have a internal lump to the left side above my c-section which is painful when I push on it, I also have a lump kind of in the middle of my c-section scar that you can see it raised up and its a little red. This was my 4th c-section and I never had this in my prior ones. My c-section did open on the right side and I had to have it stuffed every few days with gauze now its almost heeled. I noticed the first lump about 3 weeks after I had my baby, the newer painful lump I noticed last night. I had asked my OBGYN what it was at one of my appts and he said a hematoma or a collection of tissue he didnt seem concerned. I hate feeling like I am falling apart especially having to take care of a newborn plus my 3 other kids age 9, 7, and 3. I have an appt with my OBGYN on thursday and am going to ask and have him re-feel my lump especially my new one since it is painful. I'll try and post an update. I do feel better knowing I'm not alone.
