re: Car Seats

posted 12th Jul
I know you ladies can help me! My sons carseat is not where it should be. There is a thing that says that "this line must be parallel to the seat" and its not. So I heard using a pool noodle will be helpful to raise the seat up to where it should be. I"m not sure how to go about doing that.....

Do I just cut it and wedge it in the back of the seat and the seat will stay on top of it? Do I need to cut the noodle in half lengthwise? I'm confused and I don't want to mess it up! Please help! lol Thanks

If it helps...this is the carseat I have and it is still rearfacing.

They actually sell things tha are like noodles at TRU or BRU for that specifically, we just use a piece of wood.

For older kids it doesn't have to be level, it is ok to have it a little more upright. I have that same seat, and it is harder to get a good recline. I just took a pool noodle, cut it to fit between the belt stalks and then put it in the bight (crack) of the seat. I'll see if I can find a picture. You can also use a tightly rolled up towel.

I don't suggest using anything other than noodles or a towel to fix the recline, there is a possibility of it coming out from under the seat in a crash and hurting someone.

Best pic I could find:

You can see the pool noodles under the seat in this pic. I had 3 of them taped into a pyramid when my little one was younger. Now, I just use 1 noodle. He's 18 months.

Question: I have a Scion XA.. a small car... I wanted to find out if you could help me in finding a decent sized one? I have the Eddie Bauer Deluxe Convertible car seat, and I was wondering what your opinion was in this one? If you think it's fine I'll keep it otherwise if you have a different suggestion then I'd be happy to know. Thanks! :-)

she's 23lbs and 26 inches as of today. I would like to do Extended rear facing as well.

Thanks for being here to help us BG mama's out. :-)

I think we have decided on the The First Years True Fit carseat for our little man.

I have a 2002 Toyota Camry and we would like to install the carseat in the middle of the backseat. My Hubby is also 6'8" and sits with the drivers seat all the way back and a bit reclined. My question is, do you think it is still possible to install this seat in the middle?

Thank you for this thread, it has been very helpful to me, and I've forwarded it onto my other BG Gals, and a few other friends not on BG that I thought could benefit from it.

So I went to BRU last night and we saw this seat there...

What do you know about it? Is it better than the First Years True Fit? I know nothing about car seats so any info you can give me will help. Also, my son is 19.5lbs 27.5in 7mos old and we plan on rear facing for as long as we can!

I love this car seat and I am thinking about getting it! It forward faces until 65 pounds which is great (hence the name My Ride 65).   I have heard that it is great. I do not know if it is easy to install though. Im sure that Andie would know.

Also by the way the My Ride 65 is a little cheaper on Walmart.com and you can get it shipped free to the store.

After checking more than 6000 misused car seats we need to increase awareness and empower the parents who are unsure! As a mother of three, I too know how difficult this can be. Check out www.keepinbabysafe.ca for more information or if you know someone woh is interested in helping me create a new website...
