taking away the bottle

posted 6th Nov '08
alright so ailey will be 1 in 3 weeks, and i already have her on cows milk as the pedi told me to change her over, now she loves her sippy cups, she does great with them and has one most of the day just with juice or water, she still has 2-3 bottles a day, morning nap and night, or just morning and night, i have tired to give her a sippy with milk, that just wasnt happening, i dont know how to break her from the bottle, and i dont want her to have it much long after shes a year like maybe a month, if i have to no more then 14 months old, but i would really like to put them away because i never wanted to put cows milk in the bottle without formula to begin with, so any ideas on how to get her off the bottle? she also will have cold juice and water but refuses to take cold milk, she spits it, just as she does warm milk from a sippy,

i need help ladies, any advice?

My daughter still had 1 night-time bottle until she was almost 14 months when I finally just threw all the bottles out so I wouldn't be tempted to give her one to make things easier. I gave her lots of extra cuddles at night and offered her a sippywith milk. The first couple nights she whined, but then she got over it.

Just take it away, offer her the sippy when her bottles would have been and in a few weeks, she won't know the difference. If she resists, fine, but don't give in.

My son was pretty easy to bottle break, but my daughter was another story. I think she would have kept it forever if we would have let her. I was worried about "tramatizing" her and didn't want to just rip it away from her, but in the end that is just what we had to do at 18 months. She was pretty whiny about it for a few days and then was fine after that. Her pediatrician suggested that we ONLY allow them to have water in the bottle after 12 months and put juice or milk in the sippies and maybe that would make them pick the sippies over the bottle - never worked with her, but maybe give it a try.

Just go cold turkey. Chuck them out and don't look back. I had to finally do that when my middle child was turning 15 months and still hooked on them. Took us a total of 2 weeks of him screaming nubby (his word for bottle) at night but I'm glad I did it. I'm hoping Mason isn't such a goober when it comes time to throw them all away.

Quoting proud mama to ailey:“ alright so ailey will be 1 in 3 weeks, and i already have her on cows milk as the pedi told me to change ... [snip!] ... water but refuses to take cold milk, she spits it, just as she does warm milk from a sippy, i need help ladies, any advice?”

I just ran out of bottle bags, and instead of getting more, I bought these really cool tippy cups, that she loves. The only time she kinda whined was at night time, but that was only for a few days.
My niece still uses a bottle, and she looks at it like WTH is that? lol. Took a big swig out of her formula bottle once, and about gagged. lmao!
Hide them, dont let her see them. And maybe take away day time bottles, and do the one at night for a few days.
