re: Americans who need insurance for your pregnancy

posted 21st Jun
I too am so frustrated with the insurance program in the U.S. I have a great professional job which includes insurance, however, since i work for a small firm, the insurance does not cover maternity. I make too much money to qualify for any type of State aid, so my fiance and I are stuck paying $400 per month for doctor visits which do not include bloodwork or ultrasounds, and I still have to figure out a way to pay the hospital bill! It is very stressful, but I just try not to worry so much. An another poster said, I would be better off right now to be unemployed and then i would get everything paid for. That is NOT FAIR.

I am really glad I live in australia, we have health care, for low income earners or people on centrelink (welfare)

I have not paid ANY out of pocket expenses and have had good prenatal care, i couldnt imagine how i would have gone living in america only getting $150 a fortnight, until the baby is here.

Woohoo australia and its health budget in politics lol.

Well, even though your home ec teacher is right (Medicaid is paid by taxpayers - nothing is "free"), she should have never said that to you, especially considering she is one of your teachers!

I'm so glad we have PCAP in NY... The income guidelines are much higher than medicaid, you can qualify even if you have health insurance that will cover you but just not 100% or will end at some point due to a cap. It will also cover the mother for 2 months after the baby is born and the baby till they are a year old. But it covers 100% or at least the difference that your insurance doesn't cover. For example, my insurance will cover 70% then I'm responsible for 30%, this will take care of the 30% so I don't have to pay a penny and then once I meet my $2,000 cap for outpatient visits, it'll pick up as my primary and cover 100%. Good luck ladies and don't give up looking.

medicaid where i am is next to impossible to get. Ive applied twice since i got pregnant and have been told twice that i'm "unlikely" to get it. yet i have no income. my boyfriend isnt working. we're struggling. my bills from a whole 3-4 visits now is already at $1600.... and they are crappy doctors there... ugh. i hopefully find out in the next 45 days if im approved or not. kills me that they said its not looking likely tho. i dont see why. i fit their criteria and then some. its stressing me out more than anything else.

they had me apply for this as well and it isnt looking good. which is just lame since I have no income and its based on income... and theres one choice of where to go where i am if you use it or dont have anything and they seem pretty useless to me. everything they told me i already knew or had done myself prior to even meeting them...
