re: Americans who need insurance for your pregnancy

posted 31st Aug
Hello my name is Kerri and I am due Feburary 29th. I recently was laid off from my job and am now in the turmoil of trying to find health insurance. My boyfriend works for the government, and his insurance does not extend to domestic partners.
The article was very helpful, and I hope to have better news to report in the future.

its extremely...
I mean...
in NY... upstate...
its illegal to not hire someone bc they are prego...
but you never get the job bc they make up some other bullshit thing up or tell you that they will look into it...
leaving it so you have less money coming in...
and medicaid doesnt do much...
I had to hunt donw health care option pluss... which I get free only bc I went crazy and stressed for 3 months to get it...
which I was lucky to get it.
a baby will make debt but, I think shes be worth it...
IDK.... this is all new to me...

I am in Cobra at the momment, i had already put my two month notice at my job and just two weeks before i quit i found out i was pregnant. My job used to pay for my insurancwe 100% because i had been working there for 5 years, and now with cobra i am paying $256 a month, and apparently all i have to pay for the hospital bill is $300, it sounded too good to be true, so i asked the HR like 3 times "so all i have to pay is $300 to have my baby there and stay for at least 1 night, only $300, and that's it, no more than $300" - but we are still saving up in case that is not the real deal. I am curious to know how much the epidural cost DOES ANY ONE KNOW HOW MUCH THAT ALONE COSTS??       i am already thinking about giving birth naturally (with no drugs) but i might chicken out and might request to be drugged...but if the price is too high, i think i'll man-up and just put up with the pain

I have applied for Medicaid due to the fact that my husband never got insurance from his work b4 I got pregnant, cause well we never really get that sick, then when we thought about TTC, we were going to sign up for his ins. but his contract will end in Nov. so we just decided to wait to see if we got pregnant, well we did, But now I just decided to apply for Medicaid, they told me it takes up to 15 days for it to go through.  So Im still waiting to see, Im pretty sure we qualify, due to the fact that my husband is the only one working.

But I dunno what Medicaid covers....Does it cover waterbirth?  Probably not, so Im rethinking that whole thing maybe with my second.  But anyway, should I have it regularly, does the Medicaid Cover pain drugs?  What abour circumcision if I have a boy?

Thanks for the information! I've been trying to apply for Medicaid for weeks now but keep getting the runaround. My previous employer gave me the information for the COBRA deal, but won't tell me how much I would have to pay each month. We're not going to sign up blindly!!

I agree.  Not to mention when you deliver in a hospital the risk of c-sec is increased, and yes ladies that increases the cost of birthing your child.  This is supposed to be a life-changing, celebratory event, not a cold and calculated financial risk.

I had insurance with my son and we still had to pay out 1500 out of pocket. I would look at the dr's visit bills and they were billing the insurance company over 300 for each visit. this one I will have to have some state help we don't have insurance yet my husband won't get it for several more months.......

they covered pain drugs when I had my daughter 9 years ago but things change so much i would ask about it.

I HAD insurance, but I can't get it anymore, because of my drop in hours at work.... so I have medicaid now. I am pretty sure it covers everything except if you know who the father is (they have to pay half the birth) or so that is what a friend told me. I have medicaid with an HMO of United Health Care.

I do however wonder if their is a maximum ultrasounds you can get? hmm.

If n e 1 knows get back to me!

Thnx.

medicaid and medical usually do not cover circumcisions because it is a cosmetic procedure, or voluntary persay. unless there is a life threatening reason to perform onu have to pay out of pocket for it. i had to for my son. it cost me $350 dollars. it can get pricey and most docs recommend that it gets done with in 6 weeks after the babies birth depending on the method they use. gotta love it huh?

I think medicaid must vary its circumstances by state. My friend Sara has medicaid, and they covered both her sons circumsisions....I live in WI. I also found out that they do cover the epidural as well. THANK GOD. My fiance will have to pay some of the birth, thats it. (which is around 2000!) so that more than enuff.
