Hey guys quick question I haven't done any labs and ultrasound yet and I am 16 weeks already. I check medicaid and they are not covering anything but I am going to apply again in two weeks or so. Anyways, Is it really bad that I haven't gone get an ultrasound by this time or can it wait at least two more weeks or so until I get medicaid? also, I check the price to see if I can pay for it but its 900 dollars and I don't have that much money !

I had my first u/s at 12 weeks and I paid out of pocket. My medicade wasnt approved yet. Did you actually get denied or your pending on your application for Medicade? Unless you got denied your shouldn't have to apply again or appeal...

If they do approve you they will usually pay retroactively anything that is unpaid. So ask your doctor to bill you if you think you have a good shot at getting approved... then your doctor's ofc can submit bills to medicade and you can get the treatment you need. In florida they go back 3 mos usually.

Your going to have to bite that bullet at sometime and start paying for proper care if you don't get approved or you get denied...

I applied and I got approved but only if my bill goes hire than 2,000, but it is because I am doing an internship over the summer and they think I make a huge amount of money, so what I was thinkingis to reapplyas soon as I finish the internship and show them that I won't have any income as soon as school starts in the fall and that wayI will qualify. That's why I have waited so long but i'm going to call the lab where they do the ultrasound and see if they can bill me the u/s and by thetime the bills getto meI may have medicaid if not just payed whatever I can. thanks

I just finally got my medicaid approval letter. I didn't find out I was pregnant until around 15 weeks, so I was a little late on the prenatal care but all is well.

I don't know what we'd do without me being on Medicaid because EVERY little procedure you have to get done costs an arm and a leg. And not to mention prescriptions, and then the other necessary baby items you have to begin buying.

I'm really thankful and so far the process has been pretty pleasant.. it saddens me to know that a country as powerful as ours allows pregnancy mothers with nowhere to turn no type of maternity insurance.

Well I am new to this site and this is my official first post. I am in retail and I actually just switched jobs to GET health insurace so we can plan to start trying for a baby really soon. I wanted get a good job and health insurance first before anything. My husband doesn't make alot of money and if he got insurance for both of us through his job he'd be working just for insurance (because they take SO much out). My insurance is going to be about 250-300 a month and its affective after 30 days not 90 days like most places. Short/long term disability kicks in after 6 months. Its CIGNA healthcare. I've had Aetna and United Health but they take ALOT more out. I don't know how insurance works in other states but its shocking to read about how some of you ladies work and the companies don't even offer insurance coverage for pregnancy. Thats crazy! In New Jersey I believe all insurance through your employer covers 6 weeks of maternity leave, and you just pay your first OBGYN co pay and the rest are covered. Plus theres NJ Kid Care so all children are covered by medical benefits regardless of your income level.

Its so scary to not be able to enjoy this part of your lives due to stress and financial worries. Shit---we're not even "trying" yet and already with justgetting our careers in orderto set a solid foundation is rough.

I couldn't imagine pregnancy right this moment, while we both make just enough to get by--- and both of us uninsured.

i have united health care with my husbands job and they only covered the gyno yearly visit...and thats 160 a mo. and it does not cover a damn thing i don't even know why we have it....we could be putting that in to savings and could pay med bills out of pocket.....i had to get on medicare (tenncare) so it would cover my pregnacy .. and i am not going to put the baby on U H C i'm just going to try to keep our tenncare for her...its too good to pass up and will cover her till she is 21 so....

United Health is horrible in Jersey too.   When I had it through my employer last year, it was taking out almost 400 a month from my check PLUS there was a deductible that was insane. I actually cancelled the insurance and I'm just paying my Dr. visits and perscriptions out of pocket...I keep all my receipts and claim it on my taxes as medical expenses..... Now that I am switching jobs (18th is my first day), I made sure the insurance was a hell of a lot better, and affordable---because we want to have insurance whenI get pregnant. Not to mention I get perscriptions a lot because I have asthma and I take the advair disk. Thats over 200 w/o insurance. Plus my friends always try and get me scared b/c they say that after 30 being pregnant is "high risk." I'll be 29 in a few months but I feel like we should do it when we're ready, not a race against the clock. I feel likeI have plenty of time....at least enough time to set the stage to be covered financially during the pregnancy (pre and post).

i think its after 40 it high risk...my sister is having a baby and she is 31 and they don't have her as high risk...but not to sure... people way back when used to have kids till they were in there 40's and 50's so i mean i don't see what the big deal is as long as you think your body can handle the stress.....cause i will tell you i am 24 and it is a LOAD of stress on your body but oh so worth it....but i feel like a 50 yr old some mornings but then again i am in the last leg of my pregnancy....and everyone is different when it comes to pregnancy...but its all worth the end result...and that's to get a beautiful baby and a new member of your family that only you can make... hope you have a wonderful rest of your weekend..!!!

I think you're right, I think its after 40. Maybe we was talking about asthma + pregnancy is a higher risk. I did already talk to my doctor and I can actually continue with my asthma meds when I becomepregnant too so I am glad about that. I actually want two children so I guess I'd just have to deal with whatever I need to right?? I want to waita few yearsbetween children though, have one and then wait 3 or 4 years possiblyfor the second. Theres no way we'd be able to afford two kids in daycare at the same time!!! Thanks for the reply, and you have a great weekend too!
