re: Americans who need insurance for your pregnancy

posted 11th Jun
Wow, I got on medicaid. And I am living with my mom who works for the post office. She filled out this form for me saying I pay half the electric and half the rent, which I did for while while I was still deleverying pizza. I just took a crap job so I could get the medicaid. It would have been hard to find a good job being pregnant in the feild I normally work in then to wait on the insurance to kick in? Hopefully I can swtich it and have the baby in Ohio instead of Florida, if not guess Imma rack up some more medical bills. But having her in my home town where her father can be there will be so worth it.

Quoting Ready2Pop:“ I don't have insurance, I'm kind of worried about that. It's like more than 500 dollars just to have a baby I'm guessing.”

It costs A LOT more than $500. The prenatal visits alone will be close to $1000, plus ultrasounds. The hospital bill will be at least $1000.

I've been warned that a lot of doctors who are not your doctor will stop by and knock on your door and ask if they can come in. They will come in and look at your chart and then leave. Then they charge you for that. If anyone asks if they can come in, reply, "Only if you need to." They all have to ask to come in, even the nurses, or so I've been told. But, other than the nurses and your doctor, they don't need to come in.

Why will you have to pay to get him circumcised?  I have medicaid too and I wasn't aware that that didn't cover that....or does it? Hmmm something to look in to.

My cobra was is only 350 a month (I say only due to the 500 to 700 you thought). I thought it was going to be higher too. http://www.dol.gov/dol/topic/health-plans/cobra.htm

Wow, I feel really bad for the majority of you who cannot either qualify for insurance, or medical assistance. I guess we're pretty lucky, my husbands insurance covers more than 80% of the costs. With our second baby, I paid a total of $170 for my entire prenatal care and delivery including drugs(epidural, potocin, etc). $20 of it was for all of my doctors visits, $50 of it was for an emergency room visit, and the other $100 was to cover the actual delivery!

My Husband lost his job. When I got the cobra information in the mail they wanted us to pay 887 to keep me plus another 350 to keep him. Well needless to say i started calling insurance companies and Cinergy accepts pregnancy as a pre existing condition and i will pay 383 a month for both of us. I was very excited to have found them ! The coverage is actually very good and when I was asking them how it pays they said it is designed to pay 100%...so we shall see when I get the forms in the mail. They give you discounts for using doctors in their plan but CAN use any doctor you want!

Make sure it's insurance and not a discount plan. It sound like it might be but the premium sounds pretty high for it to just be a plan. I would apply for Medicade right away unless your working and making too much. Even though you might be working you may still qualify. It might be below the amount they require for you state. Check it out before you lay down that 383 a month.

I have medicaid for pregnant woman. My son has $20 a month medikids through kidcare as hubby makes too much for regular Medicaid and to add just me on his is $360 a month. His employer pays 100% of his insurence. We just cant affordto add me onas I stay home with my son. Medicaid for pregnant woman has alot higher income level. I think its $3200 a month for a family of 4 and $1600 a month regular medicaid for a family of 4. I am 27 weeks pregnant again with my second and plan on getting Medikids for her also. Her and I will be covered through Maternity medicaid for 3 months after delivery and then I wont have anything. But my medicaid pays for everything...even my presciptions, epidural, and the Mirena I will be going on once I go to my 6 week post delivery appt. My husband used to work for a great company and got laid off......when I was pregnant with my son we paid $1,000 a month for health insurence with maternity which was required if you had a women on your insurence. I think I paid a total of $350 OOP for prenatal and delivery, etc. They also paid for the circumcision whereas Medicaid wont. Health insurence is rediculous these days. Us people that fit in the middle really need help with insurence. We cant afford insurence and cant get regular Medicaid.
