re: Americans who need insurance for your pregnancy

I am in California. When I was pregnant with my first baby, my job offered no insurance whatsoever. Medical wouldn't accept me because I made too much (which was not alot!, you are better off not working). I was referred to Healthy Families by Blue Cross. They have been awesome! I paid about 400 dollars and they paid the rest, all the checkups, visits and birth. Plus, on top of it, my daughter has been insured by them the whole time since birth. I pay 12 dollars a month, or pay for 3 months and get 4th month free. It covers everything.

My fiance works full time with Home Depot and we figured once we get married I'll just go on his insurance since my position is just a temp position plus I want to watch kids and stay home when Katelyn's born ................ THEY WANT FREAKIN ALMOST $300 EVERY PAY CHECK for healthcare for the family and there are only 3 of us!! I told him "Screw that, I'll go on Medicaid I have the paperwork all I have to do is fill it out... ... I've paid into Medicaid for how many years, it's time I take advantage of what's available"
it's RIDICULOUS!

its free at least...but with my son I got state care and they even covered my dental issues while I was pregnant....
Try to get medicaid, mediCAL or whatever for your state...especially if you are in MD it is great....
Tri Care isnt free. Your husband has to work for it in order for you to have it. Its not the best of care but like you said its is free care. But I hate to call it free. Because if your spouce isnt in the military working for it you wouldnt be able to be on it.

Geeze I hate to say but you all get the raw end of the deal, we dont have to have insurance in australia to have a baby, you just go to the public hospital and all your bills are covered, however if you want private then you either get private insurance or pay out of pocket

Yes but the reason US citizens have to pay for healthcare etc is because countries like UK, NZ and AUS all pay higher tax rates in order to get free care.
I think it's sick personally that you have to pay 15,000$ to have YOUR baby, yes medicine etc costs money but man that's exagerating the costs just a little bit eh, like hell do you use up that much, and as for checkups, why the hell should you have to pay for them???
But just because we have free health care in UK doesn't mean we don't struggle. The number of immigrants coming to our country for a better life because of the NHS, free schooling, cheaper colleges/universities, means that the REAL british citizens are struggling as we aren't seen as priority anymore.
We're 10,000 midwifes short... now add the number of immigrants who come to our country for free maternity care etc... Seriously lacking here!
15,000$ is 7,409pounds and 74pence in England... I could never afford that!

I'm already 10 weeks pregnant. We tried Medicaid but my boyfriend and I make too much money to go there. Then we found something in a pregnancy magazine that featured "The Maternity Card". I'm with them now, but they're only a discount company, and they don't give me much of a discount at all! We're still paying for stuff we can't afford...
Is there any other suggestions? PM me, PLEASE! We're desprate!

I looked into getting CHIP for my kiddos because I pay over $300/mo for my family to have health insurance with a 70% pay after the $1000/person deductable. I don't know if it works the same everywhere, but our kids would have to be uninsured for a min of 3 months before CHIP would cover them! I have no problem paying for health ins, but right now money is very tight and I was just trying to do whatever I can to help our situation! I'm not willing to risk my childrens health by having them uninsured for any period of time (especially with a new one on the way!) to help my financial situation... I would rather have my credit cards or whatever be turned over to collections!

Lucky you!! Must be nice! Medical insurance is outrageous and some places wont cover you cause they look at pregnancy as a Preexisting "CONDITION" thats nuts!! I am on Medicaid Thank god for it! I called 1 800 986 baby, and they helped me out soo much! So i am just filling out the papers and sending them back as they come! making all the neccesary phone calls and well tryin to make sure i do everything right so i dont mess it up and end up with a shit load more in debt!
