Belly/Abdominal tightness anyone?

posted 29th Oct '08
Does any one feel their belly are "tight"-"tighter" at this stage of the pregnancy? Im 35 weeks and my belly have been very tight and uncomfortable. Im not too sure if that's normal or it could be a sign of something. Please share... thank you

Yes... I'm pretty sure it's because he's getting so big and that my skin can hardly stretch anymore. And i get BH contractions pretty often now. I told my doctor, he said pay attention to them but that it's normal.

It's because your baby is getting bigger and running out of room. You got roughly 5 1/2 pounds of baby in a small space. It's normal.

FYI - it's not Braxton Hicks - That usually occurs when im tired or dehydrated - no minor "little" contractions. Its just a constant tightness of my belly. Hard like- feels like your chin type hard sometimes gets harder like your forehead hard/tight.

Thats what braxton hicks are. Tightness in the abdomen. contractions are in the back.

Yes, that is what those are, and they often happen when you are tired and dehydrated! Sometimes when I am walking around my belly feels tight for like 30mins straight! Don't worry about it.

If you are convinced something is wrong, then call your Doctor and talk to them about it!!!

Well then if you know they aren't braxton hicks and they are that bothersome, why not ask the doctor why you are having real contractions this early? That's not normal and could be pre-term labor. It's better to call and have them tell you they aren't real contractions then to go into labor now. However, I still think it sounds like braxton hicks.

obviously this is my first pregnancy and im not too sure what's happening. It understandable that this may be caused of braxton hicks. Yet the only time i would think i would have a BH is during the evenings or mid day where i am tired and dehydrated. It feels likemy baby is kicking me every 2-3 seconds which usually last from 5mins to 1 hour. A contraction like sensation. But as for abdomin, having tightness all day round is kinda questionable. Mind you, id call my nurse /OB or triage but in my location there not much of any help lets say.... so if your belly is tight for more that 30 mins to 3 days let me know so I won't feel like a loner. If anything ill rush to the hospital if the pain continues, Back labor is consistent aswell but nothing to major....I can tolerate pain so im toughing it out at the mean time. So suggestions are gladly appreciated.

My tummy is rock hard all the time... until she randomly moves and theres a brief sqishy-ness... i think its just the baby is getting too big for the tumtum... it's normal... now if you start having a lot of pain and it begins getting tighter and then going back then i'd say call... but we're in the same boat!

Same here for the most part...

My tummy will be rock hard at times and soft and squishy-er at others...I am constantly making my husband feel my tummy because it changes consistency so often, lol. But it's a different feeling than when I get what I know to be BH. I think it may be either baby moving around/changing positions in there, or BH with just a different sensation than the ones I usually get in my lower abdomen.

OP I wouldn't worry too much, but like Julianna's Momma said, call or go in if you get too freaked out, otherwise it seems pretty normal to me!

I am on my first child as well, and last night I had this going on last night, my belly was so tight, when i was trying to sleep, i didn't go anywhere like to the dr's or nothing. but i couldn't sleep the whole night, it sucked pretty bad, but then I have a high pain tolerance so i'm not going nowhere until i either one, start bleeding, water breaks, or i'm balling my eyes out because something is wrong. Then i know i'm going into labor. As for how far along i am currently 35wks 4 days. so i know how you feel, but i was told if it happens again with any kind of achey pain, to head to the hospital. to the er section.

Yep, I get the same tight feeling. It's not braxton hicks because it always feels this way. I think it's just because he's running out of room in there and getting much bigger! When I get BH on top of it though my belly is like a ROCK!
