I do, but it's a lot of work! I have to feed and then pump so it takes double the time. A lot of women can't keep a good supply just pumping either.

It's very time consuming to have to pump all the time. BF is so convenient, is there a reason you don't want to just breastfeed regularly?

I kind of want to do that too. I just don't know how much more work that would be for me. I really want to pump so my BF can get up in the middle of the night and feed too so its not just me everytime.

my son was in the nicu for the first 10 days so i pumped and i wasn't able to switch to the breast. it sucked cause it is really time consuming and it made me feel like a cow. i really wish he would have just latched on! it was nice to let the dad or someone else feed him so i could rest. good luck on whatever you do

I breastfeed at home, but since my daughter is in daycare, I have to pump for bottles during the day. The pumping is a pain because I have to stop what I'm doing and pump at school every couple of hours. It's very possible to do, but it's harder than just breastfeeding (which I find very easy now that we have the hang of it). Either way, good luck and invest in a good pump (Ameda or Medela are the best)  !

I was pumping for the first few weeks since my daughter wouldnt latch on and its hard work. I would pump before it was time for a feeding (pumping doesnt empty you out, it isnt as efficient as a baby) and then i would try to get her to latch when that failed I would give her the bottle. It takes up a lot of time. and now that she latches on it is sooooo much easier not to deal with bottles and only pumping when I have to leave her with someone.

I pumped from week 1 to until my son was 1 month old and could finally latch right. Then, when he started teething, he refused to nurse and hasn't since he was about 5 1/2 months old. So I'm an exclusive pumper again.

It is ALOT of work. It was so much easier when he would nurse. IMO, pumping takes more time. I'd rather do every night feeding, and be able to actually nap when my son naps instead of pump. The trick to not losing your supply is, for at least the first 6-8 weeks you HAVE to pump everytime he eats. So, you have to feed him with the bottle AND pump. So you have to get up anyways and pump. Your choice...get up and bf or get up and pump.

After I returned to work though, I have been able to just pump 4 times a day and still keep up with the demand. So even if he wakes in the night, I can send my husband in with a bottle and continue sleeping. My schedule is something like this: Wake up, pump, go to work, pump at lunch break, pump when I get home from work, and pump after my son goes to bed.

So I guess it sort of pays off later on, but not in the beginning. In the beginning, it is a lot more work to pump than to simply breastfeed.

The problem with thinking that if you pump you can get extra sleep is that doesn't happen. If you want to keep your supply you have to get up every time your baby eats to pump so you're still getting up. My son is 5 months old and usually sleeps through the night, but I still have to get up to pump to keep my supply.
