Dilation?

posted 13th Oct
Ok I have a really stupid question. I am about 33 weeks and they say you can start dilating as soon as 35 weeks? I was wondering how do you know if you are dilating? Or is there no way to really know. I have been getting some pain down there sometimes and then it goes away. I also get pressure with it.

I'm wondering the same thing. Is there any way I can tell without going to the doctor???

The only way to tell if you are dialated is to be checked by a doctor or nurse. You can't feel yourself dialating.

Only your doctor would know if you are dialating and about the 35 week bit that's not true because i started dialating at 31 weeks...

I told my doctor that it felt like someone was stabbing me in the vagina with a knife and I had a lot of pressure and she said that I might be dilating. I have my 36 week appt tomorrow and she is going to check.

if thats the case about it feeling like you are being stabbed in the vagina than I have been dialated a really long time.

I guess in my case with all the other things going on in my case: pressure, loss of mucus plug, head alreadyin my pelvis where my doc can feel it, etc. that would be her educated guess. I never felt like someone was stabbing me until about 2 weeks ago.

I got that feeling quite a bit later in my pregnancy... and only ever dilated to a fingertip, after 16 hours of contractions... so that's certainly not what it was for me. I've heard of websites that take you through self-checking for dilation but never used one...
