How much Water to add to juice?

posted 12th Oct '08
I am about to fly and I wanted to give my baby a treat of juice, but I wanted to test it out before hand. How much water do you add to the 100% no added stuff juice? I bought the Gerber juice. I was wondering what a good ratio would be 50:50? 1oz juice 2 oz water? Any thoughts?

I started out with 1 oz juice to 2 oz water.
Then when she got a little older I did 2 oz. juice, 2 oz water.

Now I just buy the Gerber baby juice and give it to her straight (about 4 oz).

I would actually just add a drop or two of juice to the water, just to give it the taste

Babies dont need juice. I still dont let Kailyn have it. But if you want to offer it for some reason I would do mostly water. less than 50% for sure!

She is 5.5 months and I have just started cereal. She got really upset with the tylenol drops (grape flavor) ... I don't know if it was too sweet or what, but it made her MAD! So maybe more water to juice would be better? I tried just water after the meds to get the taste out of her mouth and she let it drain out of her mouth - like "what the hell was that?"

So I am thinking just a few drops might not be enough flavor, but would 50:50 be too much?

I think I will go with 1:2 ratio.

Thank you so much!   Well here I go to try!

I do 50/50 just because he doesnt like straight juice but you dont have to water it. Just as long as you dont exceed 4oz a day [6 months +]

You really should dilute it - juice is a lot of unnecessary sugar.

yea thats true for other juices maybe, but gerber juice is 100% fruit juice with no added sugar or sweeteners, no artificial color, and no preservatives. The only sugar in it is natural sugar already in the fruit.

Yep, she wasn't a fan! I guess it's not really a treat - lol! Go figure! I did 1:2 ratio. Maybe I will try again with 1:1?!?!? Trial and error.

She seemed a little confused at the taste. I think expecting formula/breastmilk and getting apple water

She probably isn't ready for it to be honest with you. Even if you are starting solids, juice/water are not necessary or recommended yet

natural or not, sugar is sugar and juice lacks the nutrients of the actual fruit. When you juice a fruit you get mostly water and sugar. A lot of the good stuff is left in the pulp that you dont drink. IMO its one way to encourage drinking sweet drinks early on. Its just not necessary - if you only offer milk and water then they will be content drinking those things. You cant want what you have never had. (well, at least an infant cant   ). I would much rather feed her a fruit than offer her only the juice.

i also waited til cheyenne was 6 months though. I started the sippy cup with the juice so she'll know milk is to bottle as juice is to sippy cup. It worked very well.
