Sleeping Toddlers

posted 12th Oct
When Caleb was taking 2 2hour naps a day, he was sleeping at night from 8pm-8am. Now that he is 18 months old, he has gotten himself down to 1 2hour nap a day. He still goes down at night around 8, but won't wake up until 10 or so. If he wakes up before then he is super grouchy. This morning I even had to wake him up. At 10 I didn't hear him playing like usual, so I went and tried to wake him up. Eventually he finally opened his eyes, changes positions, but went back to sleep. I finally got him to wake up around 10:30.
I don't mind the extra sleep he's allowing me to have, but it's starting to worry me.
So, how many hours a day are your toddlers sleeping? Do you have problems with them waking up on their own in the mornings?

my 18mo old goes to bed at 8 and wakes up at 630 when i get the kids up for school. If she sleeps in its til 9 then she takes a nap at 1230 til 230 when i wake her up to get the kids from school. She never hs a problem falling asleep but if I wake her up she's grouchy so I let her wake herself up unless I have to go somewhere

My 17 month old sleeps from 8:30pm-7:30am pretty much everyday. Then he'll take a 2 or 3 hour nap after lunch. Maybe your little boy is going through a growth spurt or something. Whenever DJ sleeps more its usually accompanied by eating more too.

Hailey is 16 months old..She is in bed between 8-9pm every night and wakes up on her own around 730am-8am. When I get up, I go in and open her curtains and the blinds.. Then if she's not awake yet, I leave her alone.. She will wake up on her own within the hour.

She takes a 1-3hr nap each day.. Average is about 1hr for her.

Anthony will be 16 months this week and about a month ago he started skipping his afternoon nap he would sleep from 830pm to 7amish and would take 2 2hr naps. So when he started skipping tha afternon nap more regularly i changed his schedule and he was sleeping from 830 pm to about 830 or 9 am with 1 2hr nap around 12ish but i guess he wasnt totally ready for it because he was being REALLY fussy come 430-5pm so on thurs iput hium back to the old schedule of 2 2hr naps and he is back to the 830pm-7am and is skipping the afternon nap everyother day. I dont know with this kid! LOL he is totally showing signs of not wanting the afternoon nap but when i totally take it away hes a mess because hes so tired. But it did seem like when i took it away he slept later in the am which i loved. If you dont mind me asking because i dont want to highjack your thread, what time schedule are the 1 napper kids on? Bed time wake up lunch dinner and nap? maybe im not giving his 1 nape late enough??

Go ahead and ask away! I am curious also. Caleb's breakfast is right after he wakes up--whatever time that may be. Between 12:30-1:00 he eats lunch then goes down for his nap. He wakes up around 4pm and then eats dinner at 6. Bathtime is at 7 then storytime and winding down and at 8 he goes to bed.

See maybe thats whats getting anthony crancky in the afternoon when i started the 1 nap schedule, he still would only sleep for 2 hrs. he wouldnt sleep longer even though he had been up longer. maybe if he slept 3 hrs he would be good the rest of the day. So when that was kind of working he would wakr up at 8ish eat bfast then lunch at 12ish then a nap so he would wake up literally exactly 2 hrs later and dinner at 7 bed at 830 he would have a snack after his nap to tide him over til dinner but never a snack later than 4 because then he would just push his food around. But now that we are back to the sporatic 2 nap schedule he wakes up at 630-7 had bfast then nap at 10 up at 12 has lunch thenhe tends to get fusy around 3ishso i put him in his crib for a nap and even if he doesnt fal asleep i leave him in there as long as he isnt crying so that at least his body can rest evenif he doesnt nap and that seems to help a little.

Man this nap crap is tough!
