Computer help

I need help. Computer Help.

I have Firefox. And everytime I get online, I have issues. I open a page, and the whole page freezes for about 60 seconds. Then I click on a link, it freezes for 60 seconds...and so on. Everytime I click something, it freezes for 60 seconds.

Does anyone know what this could be? I hadn't done a disk cleanup or defragment in a while, so I did both last night.

Have you done a restart lately? That seems to be the general Windows fix it, if that doesn't help, I might check for Firefox updates. I've had Firefox for several years and haven't had a problem like that...

You might also want to get a decent anti-virus and spam-blocker program. I use AVG Anti-virus and Spybot (both of which you can find at no charge online). Sometimes spyware can slow down your computer without you even knowing it's on there!

I use AVG, too (love it!) and we use Ad-Aware for spyware. Ad-Aware is also free, personal preference I suppose.

I always let my computer dork husband tell me what to put on my computer. I think he uses Ad-Aware on his computer but for some reason it kept interfering with my steno software (which a lot of programs do....grrr).

Ahh, then you feel my pain sometimes. I swear he'll talk to my like I'm 3 when I have a computer issue. I'm not computer illiterate but am no genius either. His computer skills come in handy though sometimes.

Well, DH knows there are things he has to explain to me tech-related sometimes, but he knows that for the most part, I know what's going on. I do hate it when the IT guy at work does that to me, though.  

It can take firefox AGES to startup if it has outstanding updates.

Try restarting or making sure you have the most up to date version of firefox installed.

Just out of curiosity are you using Vista?? Because for some reason all my scrol bars have dissappeared from firefox today. Its pissing me off so much i may start using google chrome
