Hey Mara!!!

I see you're on and there have been a few posts about this recently so I decided to ask my question.
Does it hurt your feelings when people make posts insulting your website? I am just a member and I get offended when people insult BG so I was wondering how you and Nick felt about it?

I was thinking about this the other day----

But, I think we were alll offended when the one chick came on here with the meebz or whatever it is avi that had the little woman holding the cafe mom sign...

no... not really.  i mean, we've put ourselves "out there" into the public eye.

if someone get's mad at the way we run things or even mindlessly railing against bg-- it doesn't really have any reflection in reality so much as a mirror directly on the person who's hating on us.

some people want a babysitter website.  that's fine w/ me.  i don't want to be a babysitter and i really don't care if they're disappointed in bg's non-babysitting stance.  and since we're actively always trying to make the site better, i don't feel that criticisms about how bashing goes on really count b/c that stuff  has been/will be always a working problem... and in that sense, i understand if the super-sensitive can't handle bg's hands-off approach.

that said, i did feel defensive for bg when i read comments from that mama-drama blog (mostly from babycenter members, i think), b/c they waltzed in for a brief second and started looking down their noses at us b/c we have women who *gasp* show their cleavage and *gasp* curse, while never even taking a moment to understand us.

for some reason, that riled me much more than the people who hate on bg AFTER they've been on here for a while. 

but overall, we've got so many people on here, and i get plenty of very positive feedback, not to mention that the good members and their general awesomeness faaaaaar outweighs the negative input we receive.

I think it sucks that some can't come and stay long enough to see that this is a place where there are actually PEOPLE, not robots, not people who are told to say certain things, not speak a certain way...that irks me. There are so many different women on this site. I <3 Baby-Gaga.

a while back (a few months ago), nick found this blog (mamadrama blog or something like that) that was basically "reviewing" the drama on our site-- and a bunch of the comments (from babycenter members) were very -- uh, condescending, basically saying that bg made them "feel dirty" and other lovely insults.
