Whoa, she can roll over at 2 weeks? But, no one really knows what causes SIDS. They think that the baby can suffocate if they sleep on their bellies when they can't roll back over onto their back. They don't know for sure though what actually causes it. At least I haven't heard they found what causes SIDS. If I'm wrong, someone will point it out!

My moms baby sister died from it and I dont think she was ever on her tummy they said. Its just something that sadly happens to babies. My son is 3 months old and I thought we were in the clear but them my mom reminded me that her sister died at 6 months. Its so scary

Girl, you have gotta do some research on it. Especially with a little one.
It usually occurs 3-6 months of age. There are lots of things you can try and do to help prevent it.

Sids is sudden infant death syndrome, its what they call it when an infant dies of unknown causes. Risks are tummy sleeping, co-sleeping, stuff being in the crib....

They think that sleeping on bellies can cause it but there is no exact cause for it. Just like it states Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. there is no one thing that can pin point what caused it just precautions you can take.

WiddleStace: sry to hear that.

I would. Get a sleep positioner for her. A mesh one, so if her face gets up next to it, she wont smother herself.
SIDS is something thats under developed in the brain, and they have linked it to the ear now too. Where they forget to breathe.
Thats why they say not to have bumbers in cribs now, They tokd me in the NICU that an infant can get up next to something, and breath in what they just breathed out, and that can cause SIDS too.

There is no known cause of SIDS - belly sleeping doesnt cause it, cosleeping doesnt cause it, etc. Itsthought to be an issue with the chemical reactions in the brain. Unfortunately SIDS can claim a child in almost any situation. There isnt really anything to "prevent" it since we dont even know what "causes" it! The things that people tell you to do are to prevent aspiration (suffication or choking), not SIDS.
