Circumcision

posted 11th Oct
I know that circumcision is not covered by insurance, because it's considered a cosmetic surgery. But how much does it generally cost, and when should you get it done?

idk how much it costs but you should get it done when your in the hospital with him because he wont remember it and hes been through the pain of childbirth so it wont be so harsh on him.. its a minor surgery.. but when theyre older it becomes a major one and is very painful.. it will heal quicker when hes so young too and hes not old enough to pull or pick at it. or be crawling around rubbing it.

Within the first week. Ours was $150.
Just make sure its what you really want. I had my son snipped and I truly regret it now.

My insurance covered it.....we have Federated Insurance and my kids also qualify for Medicaid to pick up co-pays.....and it was covered. But it had to be done in the hospital.....after discharge it was considered cosmetic for some reason.

Call your insurance company and double check.

For us it was done at the dr.'s office. Much cheaper than in the hospital.
He was 3 days old.

Are you sure your insurance doesnt cover it? Many plans do.

part of me regrets it too.. i heard some bad stories about how they do it.. but i learned different recently.. i thought they didnt give him pain relief and they did.. give him local numbness in his wee wee and they didnt "strap him down" like i heard, and he barely cried.. my bf ensured me that it was best, and that its ovre and done with and it healed in a few days.. it had no impact on him at all.. so i dont feel so bad about it anymore.. but i did for a while, i was beating myself up.. the nurses and dr and my bf all told me to do it.. and i did..

When I circumsized my two oldest, I didnt give it any thought because I was young, dumb and thought that's what every one does.

When I had my 3rd in March.....I did not want to have it done! I hesitated many, many time before signing the forms. The only reason I did it was because my two oldest were and I didnt want Reags to be "different". I felt terrible. But my doctor said it was the "right thing" to do. Thank God, its done and he doesnt remember it

My insurance paid for it all. You should check with them. From what I saw they charged 187.46 exactly and I had it done at the hospital as soon as he was born.

I'm nervous about having our second son circumcised. Jake was circ'd and he didn't fuss at all! He came back 5 minutes later sound asleep. I just feel awful though... I don't want baby boy #2 to be different than everyone else in our house, too.

because I feel like I didnt know all the facts/pros/cons about circumcision vs non circumcised. penises are perfectly functional the way they are and dont need to be altered. To me I figured it was just a normal thing to do... but if it was... wouldnt they just do it in the hospital and have insurance cover it?

They gave my son some sort of sweet stuff to release endorphins in his brain while they did it. I didn't ask why, plus she said he loved it. LOL

I'm glad this one's a girl. Otherwise they would be different. If I ever have another son, he wont be done.

That is the only reason I had Reagan's done....probably not a good reason, but now that it's done, Im glad I did it.

Ill probably go thru the same anxiety if this one is a boy.
