how much does your 1 month old drink?

posted 11th Oct
Currently my baby drinks 3oz. every 3-4 hours, sometimes he'll go 6hours until the next feeding. I just fed him 3oz. right now and I pulled the bottle out once he was done but it looks like he's still hungry because he kept his mouth open, looking for the nipple. So I made more milk and I'm feeding him more, I guess I wad right because he's taking more, he would have pushed the bottle out if he didn't want it. Maybe I should start feeding him more? Would he sleep longer at night if I fed him more?

Feeding them more has nothing to do with them sleeping more...If he's still hungry then feed him until he pushes the bottle away, you cant overfeed a newborn. They will push it away/spit it out.

O I asked cause some lady at wic told me that if I fed him more, he'd sleep longer and also not to "overfeed" him but that part didn't make sense... They expect you to feed the baby 2oz. Every 2hrs if they are under 2months but how do you "set" an amount for the baby, every baby is different.

That sounds like a breast fed baby. At the hospital they say every 3-4 hours and that's how my baby still eats. Since he has been eating more he does sleep longer during the night. Last night he slept 7 hous.

Aidan was eating 6 ozs every 3 1/2-4 hours at 1 month. Aidan's sleep schedule and his feeding really has never paralleled eachother... his eating habits never had any affect on his sleeping..

They usually sleep until they are hungry again, or that's what my pedi told me when my son was that age. And you have to figure out for yourself how much YOUR child should be eating, WIC and pedi's have different views on things.

For ex. my sons first doctor vistit they asked how much he was eating at a week and i said 3 1/2-4oz and the lady FREAKED! She told me that i should be glad my son wasnt in the hosptial because i was so careless. I mean my son was 9lbs 9 3/4oz, did she really expect 2oz to fill him up? Uh no i dont think so, WIC was the same way just not as rude.

And dont listen to them when they tell you your baby is eating too much or your overfeeding them, no baby can overeat because their bodys wontallow them to. Once they get full they will push the bottle away with their tongue or spit it back out. Feed your son what he is happy with.

Same here, sometimes 7-8oz. It was crazy trying to give him the right amount at each feeding, sometimes he'd want 5oz and sometimes he'd want 7oz.

OP babies usually go through a growth spurt around this time so his appitite (sp) might increase along with how long he sleeps.

I had a ped like that for Aidans 2 month appointment... he had a weight check appointment at 5weeks and that dr was THRILLED with how much he was eating and keeping down and kept going on and on about how well he was doing, how great I was doing with him... and then this other dr at 2 months told me that I was overfeeding him, he should be on a set schedule eating no more than 3 ozs every 3 hours... at 2 months?? That was not going to fly with Aidan...and that I shouldn't "shove a bottle in his mouth everytime he cries"... well no shit asswipe I just told you he has eats every 3 1/2 to 4 hours... trust me, he cried a lot more than that... lol

sorry for the language I just have a lot of hostility toward that man... I say man because he was a shitty-ass dr who basically made me out to be a young, dumb ,incompetent mother...

My son is 5 weeks- almost 6. And from what Ive learned they will sleep WHEN they want to. One night max sleep 8pm-2am, lol, AND NEVER AGAIN. He takes 6 OZ! (mabe sometimes 7-7.5)

So feed youre little one until he/she is full!

I acutally saw my pedi yesterday and he was the right weight, and height- 10lbs 9 oz! So crazy!
Feed him/her as much as he wants. I heard about possibly could stretch the tummy by over feeding. Not saying it isnt TRUE but usually your little one takes what it wants.

Oh yeah when that lady told me that at his first appt with me trying to get used to NO sleep and getting up that morning with maybe 30mins of sleep i was PISSED! I was ready to get up and slap the bitch...I mean i know that sounds REALLY bad but just the way she acted towards me and my husband was beyond rude. She also told me that just because he cries it doesnt mean he wants a bottle, to give him a paci or something because he doesnt need to eat that much...She only seen he one more time after that and he SCREAMED the whole time she was in the room because along with me not liking her he didnt like her either.

That's so funny. I use to have a pedi before he retired to me he was the sweetest doctor ever. Oh course he was my pedi too. My new pediatricans (it's a lot of them in the group) so far everyone is so nice. When I told her he was eating4 ounces at 2 weeks she was thrilled and said that the weight he gained which was 1 lb and a few ounces was great she was happy. When he went back at 6 weeks and was weighed and everything and was up to 10 lbs again they were happy because he was small and in the 25th percentile for weight and now he's in the 50th and is still on his curve. Plus he was diagnosed with reflux. Which sucks. By the time all of that is over, I'll have to buy a whole new wardrobe.

I hate those people that go by their charts and don't take any consideration over the individual baby... that guy I saw was a dick plain and simple AND an ignorant liar... he tried to convince me there are NO preservatives in vaccines and they are completely safe... then he ripped up the vaccine forms in my face and told me my baby would have to live in a bubble because he would definitely catch something. Funny, almost 7 months not so much as a cough...

Yeah the two pedis i got after that stupid lady were GREAT! They said he was growing perfectly and he was really healthy. He's always been above the chart in weight and height, so they approved at how much i was feeding him and all that good stuff. I havent seen that lady since my son was about 2wks old and it's been 8 months now so hopefully she switched hosptials or something because hell if i want to get her again when my daughters born.
