Is he "normal"?? lol

posted 10th Oct
Umm well my son was 5 weeks early due to pre-e and everyone keeps telling me he is really behind. Hes a good size boy at about 14 lbs and smart as hell lol But he cant really hold his own head up all by himself and I cant have him sit upright on the sofa for more then a few seconds because he falls over.He has never even been close to rolling over or anything like that. I guess what I exactly mean is hes very smart as in he almost says words and can figure things out(I guess you have to be there to know what I mean) but he cant really do anything phsical. Is it just because he was early or is he just behind? I dont think hes lazy because when I put him on his play gym he kicks and hits like crazy and loves it. Do yall think hes behind or just a late bloomer? Any of yalls pree mies have this problem? Thanks ladies!

He might have been focusing on learning to talk instead of working on his motor skills. What has the dr said about his development? How old is he now?

I haven't had any preemies, but some of my friends have and a lot of times the physical stuff comes a little later....and hey, don't feel bad....my daughter was two weeks late but she had a rather large head for her size (she was above the 100th percentile lol)....took her forever to do that stuff just cause her head was huge...lol...but now she's a beautiful, extremely smart 5 yr. old who has grown into her head....competes in pageants, etc....and can do anything physical she wants to....just give it time....he will do it in his own time....and if later ur still worried, have him checked out but since he's a preemie he may need some extra time cause the physical stuff didn't get a full chance to develop.

Don't worry too much, my son was six months old before he rolled over on his own.
Your Ped can do more in depth checking, let him know your concerns. But even 'normal' babies slack sometimes.

Hmm well he hasnt really asked that much about it so I guess he thinks it alright. And Kaden is 3 1/2 months old now but I hear all these mommies that keep saying their babies are doing some of this stuff at 2 months

What is normal anyway?? Every child is different just like every person is different. I don't believe there is such a thing as normal.

For preemies, you go by their due dates for developmental milestones. So, since your son was born 5 weeks early, he should be about the same as a 2 month old developmentally. This works until they are about 2 years old. By then, they will have caught up with their peers.

I wouldn't worry about what other babies are doing. All babies go through development stages at different times.
