teething preemies?

posted 7th Oct '08
When did your preemies start teething? My twins are 3 months old & I think they may be teething but when I told a friend of mine he said that they couldn't because they were born premature.....

I've looked up some symptoms that babies could possibly have if theyre teething and I've found A LOT....

Things like:

Drooling more than usual
Chin Rash
Nawing on whatever they can get their hands on
Cold like symptoms
Coughing
Not sleeping through the night...

Those are the signs that my boys have that I have found....

They have a doc apt. thursday....Maybe she could tell me, but I wanted to know when did yours start teething because I don't think just because they were born early that they take a longer time to start teething.

My 29 weeker started teething at 4 months and got his bottom two teeth about a month later. He had all of those symptoms too, he was constantly sucking on his little fists and drooling everywhere!

From what I've seen, I don't think preemies teeth later. I think that while 6 months is the accepted age to get teeth, all children get them at varying ages. My friends term baby didn't get any teeth until his first birthday and another friends preemie baby got his first tooth at 4 months. It's completely possible for him to be teething.

My daughter is also showing the signs. There will always be exceptions to the rule! What's funny is that my daughter is just starting to realize her hands are there so she munches them, then laughs and grabs my face with her saliva soaked fingers, then munches her hands some more. I love motherhood!!

awww that's really adorable =]! I can't disagree with you at all! Motherhood is a great life long experience for me. Even though my kids drive me crazy sometimes....I don't regret them one bit

My daughter was taken emergency c-section at 26 weeks. I asked her home care nurse about infant teething and she said she has seen many preemies begin teething much earlier than full term babies. As early as 4-5 months non-adjusted age. I believe my daughter, now 5 1/2 months, has been teething for several weeks and I believe it is a tooth we can see and feel, not just a "milk" tooth.
