What do you do?

posted 7th Oct
Im looking for idea's for child care. I will be a single mother when the baby comes. I tried to get child care assistants and i make to much money. Every daycare i call wants at least $250 a week for an infant. And my mother wants to keep him but she lives 45 mins away from me, so that would be an hour and a half of drive time a day and with gas prices i would be broke! Does anyone have any other idea's for me? He will be here in 3 months and im starting to get really worried.

Thanks

start up your own home daycare. take in like two or three other kids and charge like $150-$175 a kid.

that's what a few people i know have done.

My friend had her baby 6 months ago and couldnt afford child care. Her mother lived and hour and half from her. So Her baby would stay with her mom all week and she'd go pick her up on the weekend. Take her back on Sunday or she'd stay with her there and then come back. Now that she's 6 months Child care doesnt cost as much. She missed her baby but it saved her a lot of money. Im going to have the same issue when I have my baby. I plan on finding a family member to watch him or her or a really close friend.

Public Assitance can pay for child care if you qualify.

Our daycare is 255. per week for infants. My infant and toddler only go two days a week, though.

Ask your mom if she can come over on Sunday night and spend the night Sunday and Monday. She can watch your baby on Monday and Tuesday. Do part-time daycare on Wed, Thurs. & Fri.

eta: It is $51.00 per day for infants and $41.00 per day for my toddler..

The thing is i only make like $200 over the limited. So that pisses me off because i make $1900 a month but i still have a car & house payment, insurance, utilitys, phone and groceries that dont leave me shit for daycare!

I always believe that you should stay at home with your baby, but in your situation it looks like you have to work. If you dont have to, by all means stay with him, otherwise I suggest moving closer to your mom, or meeting half way, and having him stay with her. Thats the next best thing, it will save you money and your baby will be able to bond to grandma, and grandma can bond to him. If your mom is offering, I say take her up on it, its much better than daycare. Hmm.. totally strangers, over a loving grandma, Id choose grandma. Meet half way---

Even though grandma offered to watch both of my kids 5 days a week, I still put them in daycare for 2 days. I think it is important for children to realize that not everyone is going to spoil them like grandma. And that many people can take care of them. The teachers are only total strangers for the first couple of days... After that, they form a relationship. After my daughter moved into the 2 year old room, she still goes back to the 1 year old room to hug her other teacher...
