Digoxin?

Are there any preemie mommies that have, or have had a preemie on Digoxin? It makes Tye so sleepy and he doesnt have that great of and appitite because of it.

When i worked in the dr office I had patients who felt the same way!!! It can go by so many names thats why i wasn't sure

Yeah, it has lots of names!! My son has SVT so it regulates the heart. The side effets are awful, hopefully he wont have to be on it much longer, his cardiologist said he would be on it till he was 1 yr old.

My patients were generally elderly but I know they complained all the time about the side effects. I hope he doesn't need to be on it much longer either. i was trying to find my pill book but the dh has it at work with him (army medic) poor little guy!!!

He is a trooper, but I know that he will be a totally different baby once he is off of it. He wil start eating better, and growing!

I'll be honest im not 100% what DS is on right now. He has multiple heart defects and heart failure (a result of severe CLD/broncho pulmonary dysplasia). His heart failure is moderate to severe and they've had to switch his meds several times to try and improve the resulting side effects and improve his quality of life. The meds have had awful side effects on him. They've focused alot on his fluid retention because of the effect on his lungs and oxygen dependency, but they've caused him problems with nutrition. He's been sedated quite alot for procedures and when he's been on the ventilator and it really knocks him for 6 for a while. Its hard to tell how much is because of his heart meds and how much is from the backlog of sedation in his system. He has poor balance and co-ordination and struggles with sitting up, hes not active at all, but again its hard to know which is from his neurological complications and what are from his meds. Sorry i cant be of more use

Poor guy, most people look at me wierd when I tell them that Tye is on Digoxin, bc they have never heard of it. I think that it is the reason he has very little appitite though.

I'm sure he will... I know my daughter asthma meds (I know it cant compare to the heart meds) knock her down when she has to take them. But they little bodies are sooo strong I am amazed at them. Once she was off her breathing treatments ( 6x a day for at least 2 years) she started gaining weight and playing, so if asthma meds can do that to her I can imagine how the heart meds do for your babies I'll keep them all in my prayers and pray they get better fast!!

I know. I dont have anyone that understands. Ugh girl im crying now! I've been feeling so desperate about my wee guys weight gain recently. He doesn't take any oral feeds because of his breathing and lung problems and because it burns too much calories. He doesn't have an appetite but i thought thats maybe because he is fed straight through his tummy, but i guess it could totally be because of his meds. He stopped absorbing nutrients and so last month he had a J tube placed (feeding tube in intestines) but it made him very sick. He had NEC at the start so i was very cautious about him having this, but it was our only chance at saving him. He had awful diarrhea and dropped back to 12lbs odd - at 9 freakin months old. The whole point of it was to help him gain weight and get more resiliant. He's getting so bad that they wont do the heart procedure on him. He has to be over 15lbs to have it, so im scared he wont get upto that in time. Im scared by the time he might make it to 15lbs they will say his heart is too far gone and they won't do it. Its like everything is a catch 22 - he needs his meds but they make things worse, his lungs make his heart worse and his heart makes everything worse. Its a nightmare, i don't know what to do.

Having a heart baby is very scary. You always worry somethings gona happen ya know. Even when he cries he'll change color, literally. Its a hard thing to go through, but im glad theres another heart mummy on this board! People dont like talking about it and no one really knows what it's like unless they've been there. I hope your LO gets off the meds soon. *hugs*

Yeah, it is really scary to have a heart baby! We have been to the ER like 6 times in the past 6 months because of his heart, the meds got to a toxic level bc his body wasn't metabolizing it correctly. The heart is such a huge thing to have issues with!
You are such a srtong Momma, my heart goes out to you and your sweet baby. I hope that he can gain the weight that he needs so they can fix his little heart!
