Moms who pump...

posted 6th Oct
Does your milk ever look really watery??? I am just wondering because the last week or so it looks so watery... esp. when I first pump it is almost clear looking... It used to look almost yellow in color and you could tell that it was very fatty milk (gross... but you could tell) and I am wondering if this means my milk isn't as good as it once was... Could this be due to diet? I really have no idea... Just looking for answers... Thanks!

Usually the first milk you pump is watery. The fatty milk comes in after that. When you refridgerate your milk does the fat rise to the top?

Yes but then when you refrigerate it, the fat rises to the top.

Not like it used to... I used to have a whole layer of fat on top, but now there is just a little bit...

my colostrum pumped out to be a yellow color. As my milk came in it went from yellow to white. My milk is always watery at first, then it turns white and gets thicker almost, guess thats the hind milk which is very inportant, thats where all the calories are at.

I really doubt that your milk isn't as good as it used to be unless you have changed your diet drastically.

Breastmilk composition changes in order to meet the needs of the infant. Eat healthfully, drink water and avoid toxins and your milk will be fine.
