a dreaded mucous plug question *sorrry*

posted 6th Oct
Well it's not really the typical one though haha I know what it looks like and I know I have lost a couple small pieces recently and I also know that can happen weeks before labor, but I just need to clear some things up....

I am 32 going on 33 weeks this week and at 31-ish weeks was the first time I got a small glob of the mucousy membrane snot, there was no blood in it and I could tell by the size it wasn't the whole thing... I have been getting some super sharp pains down there and a lot of braxton hicks - which I hardly got with Nia at least not until I was term. Anyways, I know I have been on the go physically and mentally a lot lately with taking care of Nia to getting new baby stuff set up to just everyday errands and I am starting to feel stressed/overwhelmed. Nia was early but not premature, I lost my whole plug and my water started leaking the same day at 37 weeks and she as born at just about 38 weeks... I am just starting to worry because they say if you had one early the others usually come early too, sometimes earlier - and I know that is not always the case but with all this stuff going on with my body lately I'm a bit concerned, I don't want this little guy coming any sooner than his big sister did in fact I wouldn't even mind if he stayed in longer than she did this time around. Today I have been feeling extra sharp pains down there and small pieces of the mucous plug have been wiping away all morning (still not bloody)

Is 31-32 weeks too early to be starting to lose the plug since that obviosuly means my cervix is thinning out? Also, if it does start to look pinkish/bloody should I then be concerned? Has anyone else started to lose pieces of it that early with a full term baby? I am definitely bringing this up with my midwife but I don't see her until Wednesday and I don't want to call her all worried unless it's legit haha

The mucus plug can grow back. I would be concerned if your water broke or your having regular contractions.

I started to lose my mucous plug at 30 weeks. It will grow back if it is lost too early. My OB said that the mucous plug really doesn't tell you when you will go into labor. . . it actually means nothing.

If you had a baby early and you're contracting a lot I would suggest you call your doctor. Maybe drink some water and lay down? You might be dehydrated and that is making your contractions worse.

Best wishes.

each plug is different. Mine was bloody with dd-- but wasnt this time around.

And it grows back anyway so... I would not be concerned at this point.

Call your dr if youre too worried.

I would call the midwife anyway. Not only could she maybe calm your nerves a litle but she could also tell you if you need to stay off your feet or not. Better to be safe than sorry and no question is ever stupid especially when it concerns the health of both you and your unborn child.

thanks for the responses, I feel much better reading this. I know it can grow back and keep shedding for weeks but I didn't realize it could start as early as 30 weeks heh. My braxton hicks aren't so much the bother today but more so the really insane sharpness down in my cervical area that I am feeling. I think I am just going to take this as my body wanting me to take it easy more often when I can and listen to that.
