baby shower gift?

So, this girl I know (we're not really friends, but she lived 2 houses down from me from 1stgrade-12th) She is my age and is due in December. She is having her baby shower this Sunday. Now, I have no clue if she is BFingor FFing. So, I don't want to get her like Bfing supplies or FFing supplies (or I would) But, I was thinking....
I have tons of out of the package NB diapers that Trinity has obviously grown out of. I also have a good package (again out of the package)of a brand of diapers that I don't want to use.
Would it be wrong of me to go and buy like a small wicker basket and pack it full of diapers and a package of wipes and stuff like that? Or should I go and buy an actual gift?
It's just that we're really tight with finances and if I am buying a pack of diapers, they are going on Trinity's butt, not someone elses.

Am I just being selfish? 

I think it's a very cute idea, especially since money is tight for you and every new mom needs diapers.

You could always do a small diaper cake but I think that your idea is cute! New mom's always need diapers and wipes.

Its a good idea....you can make it look like a dipaper cake, they might have ideas if you google them!!!! everyone ALWAYS needs diapers

that's a great idea she'll never know and it will save you a bunch of money and as is well known you can never have to many diapers haha

I think it's a cute idea, when my friend samantha had her babyshower, I just went around my son's room and found extra things that I didn't need and put a little gift bag thing together.

If people really need something they will take it. plus she realizes your thinking of her and getting her something. i think its sweet. i had ppl do that at my baby shower.. i thought it was thoughtful

I think that you're being very practical! Why let good diapers go to waste when someone else can use them? And if you need a gift anyhow, you're killing two birds with one stone, right?
Maybe instead of buying a basket, you can find something that will do double duty. A diaper pail, or even a basic baby bath tub. I was at Walmart the other night and strolling through the baby section and they have the basic, no frills tub for less that $10! Throw in diapers, wipes, and maybe baby wash cloths, or a bottle of baby wash?

I think it is a great idea. If you do want to buy her something just buy a couple of teethers, or rattles to throw in your basket. Diapers are a great shower gift !

oh I was going to say maybe you could even decorate the basket and then she could use it for storage later

i actually have a pack of washcloths that arent even open yet. ( i received 30 washcloths,3 towels, and a robe...) i think i can spare a few!

Personally, I'm always extra grateful when I receive gifts like that, because it shows that someone put a little thought and time into it, rather than just buying a onesie and throwing it in a gift bag.

True true. I had a few people like that at my baby shower. Eh, but I know at one of my friends baby shower's (prepregnancy) That's what I did, but I mean, it was the first baby shower I had ever been to,I didn't know what to get. I bought her a bunch of little yellow and green onsies(they didn't tell us what they were having until the shower) and I bought a rattle that was also a teether.
