here we go! and Military question?

posted 6th Oct
Ok so we have been waiting for post housing (on base for civilians) since Aug and I called and finally was offered a house (really really fast i was amazed!) I said i need to give 30 day notice to move out and they had one that would be open Nov 3 for move in.

Well today I get home from dropping my daughter off at Pre-K and I have a terrible headache so I lay down to go back to sleep and it wasn't 30 mins before my cell started ringing. I answered it and it was housing from post and my house is ready to move in on WEDNESDAY (yes 2 days from today monday) I said "What? We were told Novemeber 3." the lady proceeded to tell me tha tI could take it or leave it and wait until January for another house, UGH i donthave the money for the prorated amount of rent bc I just paid rent on our apartment for the month. So i make a few phone calls and borrow money from my grandma ( i told her if she couldn't spare it dont worry I would wait until Jan) She (gma) drove to the bank in her home town and deposits the money into my daughters acct (long story, plus we bank at the same banks!!!) I call the lady back and she said I can sign for it on Wednesday then go to transportation with my orders to get the movers out and she tells me "Do not pack anything" I was in total shock she said they have to pack it all (which is nice since im on bedrest until my BH's get easier) So I have to move with in this week, get my daughters school changed over and set up a new house and clean the old apartment, I thought I had longer to do it!!!! Good thing I will be closer to Kaila (aka Brass Bangin Barbie) so I will have someone to sit around with and visit once we get move

To all you military wives, do they really pack it all for me? Or should I start now with the boxes I jacked from the neighbor who moved in??

haha no they pack it all for you... i just moved from florida to georgia and they packed it all and moved it.. well they are supposed to unpack it and put everything they take apart back together. well they didnt do that for us. i realized that i didnt pack some of my special jewlery. my dads wedding band and moms wedding band... they got stolen. so make sure you take EVERYTHING valuable with you. i was dumb and totally forgot about it... they pay for anything that gets broken also...

wait i'm confused. why do you have to pay rent on Post housing? It is free. there isn't any kind of rent or anything.
Also if you pack boxes and stuff breaks you are responsible for it. if THEY pack it and break it they are.

They will re-pack anything you pack, otherwise they can be held liable.

Just some advice. Take your pictures in your car w/ you when you move. We didn't let them pack our pictures only because you can't replace them.

rent is freee when they take the BAH from your check. But since we got our BAH for October we have to pay part of it back. Novemeber we wont pay anything or see the BAH.

Anything that you need to have available for you right away, pack yourself and keep them in a separate part of your house. Anything that is super valuable or sentimental, take the extra precaution to wrap it up yourself, but take those boxes with you. The movers will come and pack everything else. Don't leave any money or checkbooks out in the open (my parents' checkbook was stolen...). Also, Disney movies are a big thing that go missing along with personal movies (my friend's personal tapes were stolen). Take pictures of your electronics and write down their descriptions and serial numbers and keep those with you. Good luck with your move!
