Day Care ???

posted 6th Oct
I'm getting ready to put Kaden in a daycare.   While I go to school. Here on post we have the CDC (Child Development Center) which is a huge daycare or FCC (Ft. Campbell Care) which is in home day cares on post. They are ran under the same guidelines and are frequently checked on. But I don't know which one to go with.

So what are the pros and cons of both? What do you do?

The thought of putting him in daycare makes me nauseous and want to cry. Kaden has horrible separation anxiety. He will make himself so sick when I leave. Cry until he throws up.

Ahhhhh... I don't want to do this ladies. I'm freaking.

I would go with the smaller setting. It wouldnt be so overwhelming. And ask if you can bring something personal from home, at least for naps.. a blanket a stuffed animal, anything that smells like home. My daughter is 6 months old and has been going to daycare since 8 weeks. I've just started taking a blanket from home every morning for her and its really helped her nap better and not cry now that she is old enough to realize whats going on.

Thanks. I will ask!   He has his bubbie that no matter what has to go otherwise all hell will break loose when it gets to be nap time.

I just answered this question in our other thread, but I would go with the more structured care (the CDC). I love having Easton in a routine and not having to worry about personal issues with his teachers, if they need to be out then they have someone else to step in for the day. I'm not sure what would happen with the FCC if the teacher had a family emergency or a sickness.

My best friend and her husband are both doctors at Ft. Campbell. They live on the Tennessee side. They have both their kids in the daycare at the base hospital. I don't know if it is the same one that you would have access to but they absolutely love the base daycare. I hope that helps.

Unfortunately no its not. The daycare at the hospital is for employees and then drop ins. Like if you have an app there in the hospital. Thanks though.

I really feel for you. I couldn't leave Jamil. He would act like you described if I did though.

I would only go with a smaller one IF you really really knew the person watching him. So much more could happen in someones house vs a big daycare center. I can't tell you how many people I've had walk out on the job (When I worked in a pre-school) because they just couldn't take it. I was always grateful when they left, but I can't imagine if a person in there home we're to decide they couldn't take it. Ya know?

Yes Ma'am
I'm terrified to leave him. But I know that in the long run I am doing what is best for US. We need the second income , b/c the Army doesn't pay well enough for me to stay home. It sucks. I wish I didn't have to leave him. I know its going to be a huge adjustment on him. I just hope that this truly is the best thing.

I really feel like once he gets over the seperation anxiety that daycare is a great way to socialize your child. They learn so much from being around other children.

Now I know you can get the same affect from being a SAHM and going to mommy and me groups and things of that nature.

But if you have to put him in daycare, try looking at the positives that will come from it!

Thanks Danielle!
I know he needs that interaction with other kids which is why I am happy that hes going. Plus he can't cling to me 24/7. I think that it will help with his stranger anxiety too. My poor baby. Hes just a mess. Lol.

He will get used to it. I hate leaving my daughter too, it makes me physically sick sometimes, I really want to stay home with her but I know I cant. It makes me feel good though when she smiles at the ladies that take care of her and holds her arms out. I know she likes it there or she wouldnt be happy to see them. And she is the offical "binky thief" of her daycare. She can only army crawl and roll, but she likes to make her way over to the other babies and steal their pacifiers. She doesnt take one so I guess she doesnt think they need them either. Its fun to hear the cute stories they will tell you when you pick him up, and you'll really be able to see how he acts around them if its a good place or if you should find a new one. If they dont tell you what he did that day or what he ate..etc.. I would look elsewhere.

(I'm answering all of your threads.   )

Definitely go with the CDC! I know there's more kids there but that will make Kaden more outgoing and he'll have different types of children to play with. They're also very structured and have the same caregivers that go in and out, that way they're not worn out like one or two caregivers at an in-home facility might be. I'd be scared bringing Jake or mini-wheat to an in-home, only because they aren't very closely watched and they don't have security cameras installed EVERYWHERE. I know, bad things can happen anywhere but it's less likely to happen in a CDC-type enivornment.

I think having Jake in his CDC has really helped him grow. He's been there since he was 9 weeks old and has grown up with all of the babies/toddlers there. It sucks leaving him there but I know it's good for him. They've helped teach him sooo many things. I've also seen a difference between Jake and my friend's (who isa SAHM) baby. I'm not knocking her parenting skills at all but that baby is a year old and is SOOO attached to the mom! She doesn't want to play with other kids and just wants her mom. Nothing wrong with that but what's going to happen when she goes to pre-k? Terrifying...

ANYYYYYYYYYHOO, long story short, I say CDC.

  Thanks Whit!!
I just remembered all the security cameras and I def think I am going with the CDC. If I can get someone to watch Kaden today I will keep my new app (they canceled me yesterday, system was down) .
