How loud is too loud?

posted 6th Oct
I've done a few google/yahoo searches, and can't seem to find the answers to my question.
How loud is too loud?

Bryer loves music. Especially live.Mike is in a band, and they practice every Sunday. I usually take Bryer, but we stay out of the band room and in the living room (it's at a band member's house). Well, yesterday during a breakMike tookBryer into the room and let him play the drums.Bryer loves playing the drums. So when they started playing again, I keptBryer in there for a few minutes. He didn't flinch, yell or anything when it came to the volume of the music. And everything was hooked up like it would be for a live show.
Am I hurting Bryer's ears by letting him be in the room? How loud is too loud?

Bryer never cried or yelled about the volume, the only thing he cried and yelled about was the fact that we wouldn't let him play with the equipment...

I wouldn't recommend it, but it's your baby. I have permanent hearing loss from shooting rifles with no hearing protection.

hm... i honestly don't know... i just always remember people saying that infants have "little ears" and so loud noises are not good for them, but... i don't know. i'm sorry. good luck, though! my daughter looooooves music too!

I'm only asking because I'm not sure. I've heard mixed results.

I've heard their eardrums are too small for really loud noises.

Yeah, I know with mine, it's because your eardrum vibrates really fast to process the sound waves, and all that banging around in there causes scar tissue.

Does he get ear infections?

No. Never had an ear infection. Never even been sick. I'm lucky..a whole year of being sick free.

That is lucky. I was told that my ear infections were a cause of the damage, and then the ear infections only made the hearing loss worse.

If it still bothers you, talk to your doctor. Or you could maybe get him some headphones to put over his ears, to muffle the sound a bit.

Yea, yesterday was the first time I brought him in the room. I probably won't do it too often. He was so cute, he sat on my lap and danced while they played. Then he would try to get down and race for the drums.   I have a little musician!

well, i don't want to make you worry or anything, and maybe i'm being paranoid, but... does your son hear you okay? i mean, you said he loves music, and he's what a year old? i mean, it could be that he just really likes music and it doesn't bother him, but... what if he has a hearing problem and that's why it doesn't bother him. but i mean, i guess you would have noticed it before... i'm sorry if i am being too forward or something, and i'm not saying that it has to be this because some babies/kids just like and can tolerate loud music and sounds. but maybe call your doctor and ask if the loud music is okay and/or tell him/her that your baby doesn't seem bothered by it and ask if he/she would be concerned... i hope i'm not being annoying or too paranoid... and it's just a suggestion... good luck!
