Need help....anyone with experience with thrush

posted 6th Oct
My son is 4 months old and this is his 2nd bout with thrush. Each time we start out with Nyastatin which does not work and then go to Diflucan but this time it is not helping. He had had it for 3 weeks now. We boil everything...bottles, nipples, spoons, medicine droppers, pacifiers. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

My cousins daughter kept getting it, she got a prescription from her doctor that cleared it right up within a few days each time.

I can't really help you but my daughter had it once at like 6 weeks old. From what I read it's basically a yeast infection. I hope you find something that works.

An overproduction of yeast in the mouth. Kinda like a yeast infection.

you might try changing how you clean the nipples and such. My little girl got thrush by 2 weeks old. We had been using the Medela steam clean bags that you put in the microwave. I read in a book that the steam (which happens when you boil too) can cause it if you don't wash them off afterwards with cool boiled water. I really don't have time to stop to boil water and then let it cool so I can rinse stuff so I just do a regular hand wash with hot water and dish soap (no microwave steaming, no boiling, just old fashioned hand washing) and it has not come back since! Anyway, this is what worked for me! She's 2 months today and hasn't gotten it again.

We are using Diflucan right now. It helped the last time, but it is not doing any good right now.
To the previous post....thrush is basically a yeast infection in the mouth of the infant. It caused sore white patches on the tongue, cheeks, and/or roof of the mouth. It makes it very painful to suck a bottle.
