How long can I store pumped breast milk?

I am going back to work January 1st   and I would like to start stockpiling breast milk in the freezer as soon as possible. Right now my little boy isn't even two weeks old yet, and at least three feedings a day he'll fall asleep after draining only one breast. I'll pump the other one and get between one and two ounces out of it, and usually half an ounce out of the one he nursed. Is it possible to start freezing this milk now so it'll be there for my boy when I go back to work?

4 hours at room temp, 24 hours in a cooler, 5-7 days in therefrigerator, 3-4 months in a self contained refrigerator freezer unit, 6-12 months in the deep freezer

Why can't you shake it?

I have not a clue. lol. I used to shake it all the time before I read that. My son is fine. Maybe the "cream" doesn't break up right when you shake? I started swirling after I read that.

i had no idea i could combine pumped breastmilk from different times of the day in one container. i wish i had known that sooner!

yeah i was kind of confused about the 'no shaking' thing too. no getting violent with the milk, girls.

I know. I thought it was weird. I was shaking it the first 3 months!
