effaced?

so i was in the e.r. tonite for somthing not labor or baby related, and im fine, just somthing minor. anyway. when they checked me down there, they said i was 50% effaced. this is my first baby, and im 34 weeks pregnant. does that mean my baby is going to come ealry, or is that normal in this stage of my pregnancy? im a lil confused. thanks ahead of time for any help you can offer. 

normal... doesn't really mean anything... it means your body is getting ready.

It just means your cervix is thinned 50%, its normal for you to be there at this stage
