for those who started baby food at 4 months

posted 5th Oct
a few questions:
1. when did you start meats? Not the dinner kind like "Chicken Noodle dinner" or Turkey and Rice", but the "chicken n chicken gravy types. I ask because I those have a ton of protein in them (7 or 8 grams, versus 2 or 3 for the other types) and I know too much too early is bad on their tummies. My son is nearly 6 months old, and was thinking of starting him at 6 months. Is this too early?
2. how much were/are they eating at 5 12/-6 months at a time? My son typically eats about 4 ounces of jarred food, but just gobbled down about 5 1/2 tonight for dinner.
3. Lastly, did you vary their feedings, such as a fruit and a veggie, or just stick to one jar of something?

Thanks for all the insight.

1. I started meats at 6 months as well as dinners. My son hated ALL meats and ALL dinners. So we went straight to table foods. He started Fruits and Veggies at 4 months though.

2. @ 5-6 months he was eating1 jar and a bowl of oatmealin the am and 2 jars in the PM. (a fruit and veggie)

3. We varied them. Fruit and veggies in the pm. And strictly fruit in the am!

My daughter's doctor advised me not to start meats until 7mos. Due to the protein in them they need to be able to tolerate and break it down.

ETA: But my daughter never liked the jarred meats.

Those stage 2 meats are disgusting! Smell them and taste them yourself, they are awful, like meat gruel.

Gavin refused them.....he started the stage 3 meats around 7 months and still eats them...he loves them

Well I started my daughter out on the cereals at 4 months, and at 5 1/2 months I started her out on vegetables (it was thanksgiving and felt she needed sweet potatoes LOL). After I ran through those i moved to fruits. I would give her about a 1/2 jar of fruit for breakfast with 1 tbsp of cereal, then for lunch I would give her 1/2 jar of either fruit or veg w/ 1 tbsp of cereal, and dinner a veg with 2 tbsp of cereal. I didn't start meats until she was 9 months old as recommended by her pedi.

We never did the stage 1 meats because they were disgusting. So we started the stage 2 meats, and that was probably around 6 1/2 months.

I usually give her half a jar of a meat/veggie and then half a jar of fruit in one sitting. So 1 whole jar total. I just do it that way to kind of balance out the fruit and veggies.
