Late pregnancy questions!

posted 5th Oct
First off, I have 23 days left, and I'm going frikkin crazy!!! I'm ready for baby now!!! Any tips for me to start doing so I will go into labor soon?? I.e. walking, etc.
Now, the main question: I live pretty far from my hospital (about 45 minutes, an hour or so with traffic) and my doctor said we could schedule an induction if I'm worried about it.. Because with both me, and my brother, my mom's labors were about 3 1/2 hours. I've heard that being induced makes labor hurt worse, and raises my chances of a c-section.. Is this true??

Yeah it raises your chance of having a c-section. But if the hospital is 45 minutes away and your mom had 3 1/2 hours of labor you should have time. Just make sure everything is packed and ready to leave ASAP when your contractions become regular.

you shouldn't want to have your baby so soon.....let him come when he's ready......i know it REALLY sucks at the very end....but, it is a lot better healthwise for him to wait

don't induce, i'd do it naturally.

I was late with all my kids.

you know you could still maybe even have a month left if you do it naturally?? all3 of mine were born at 42 weeks.

BUT what worked was acupressure points, just google it. it got me going with my last one

Dont get induced. It hurts so much more and on top of that, just because your a month before your due date that doesnt mean that nothing can go wrong with your baby's health. My son was a month early and had to stay 10 extra days. So dont want your baby to come early. Let her come on her own, when shes ready.

Thanks ladies. I wouldn't get induced this week, or next week. But if she hasn't come when I'm 39 weeks, he said we could schedule one.. But ifit's much worse, then just forget it. haha

i'd say just let the baby come on its own. when he/she is ready to come out, he/she will! everyone gets a little anxious, but it's better to let nature take its course. good luck. I went into labor with my daughter at 37 weeks, which is right around where you are now, and it was a total shock! i thought i was going to be late, for some reason!

I would just wait until baby is ready to come. At 39 wks I was doing alot of walking, but it didnt help I was 2 days overdue. And as far as living so far away I live about an hour away from the hospital. I had a 3-4 hour labor with my son, when I got to the hospital I was 9 cm so they got me in my room all set up and they checked me again and I was 10 cm. They then popped my water and I was ready to push. So Im sure you will be ok on making it to the hospital. If your planning on not getting the epi it also helps so you dont change your mind at the hospital.

yeah, with your first i wouldn't worry about not getting to the hospital on time.....labor normally takes quite awhile!......all the books i have say that you will want to stay home as long as you can.....as soon as they get you to the hospital, you aren't comfortable anymore and they normally try to induce you b/c you stop progressing...which, obviously, the women on here say that inducing is horrible!

Walking works. When my doctors starting checking me, for 2 weeks I hadn't dilated anything and my husband and I kept trying sex. The Saturday before I went in labor, I walked and walked. I went into labor Tuesday night and had my daughter Thursday morning. I was in labor for over 30 hours. I spent the last 12 hours of my labor at the hospital and I spent the last 6 hours with epideral. I live about 30 minutes from the hospital too and trust me, you have plenty of time. Even if your water breaks, you still have time to get to a hospital. Good luck.
